Be prepared: High-def videogame remake art is beyond beautiful photo

I think this is the first time in my life I have ever been speechless.

Before anyone cries “OVERDRAMATIC!” please take a look at the attached gallery. Artist Orioto has recreated some iconic retro videogame scenes in glorious high-definition and ... yeah ... like I said: speechless.

I honestly love so many of his (or her?) pieces that I truly couldn’t decide which one to use as the header pic of this post. I selected the classic opening storm sequence from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past not only because it is stunning, but, well, Link to the Past is my favorite game of all time. What can I say? I’m a little biased. But, man, they are all incredible! Check out the one from Super Mario World ... or the one from Street Fighter II ... or the one from Super Metroid! MY GOD I CAN’T CONTROL MY HAND OVER THE CAPS LOCK!

As much as I adore retro graphics, can you imagine what it would be like to play all of these high-definition remakes? Someone shoot me in the face because, if there is a heaven, I will be playing these games there.

Please give some much deserved love to Orioto by also checking out his deviantART page. He deserves every bit of praise I am hoping you all heap on him in the comments.

What do you think? Which one is your favorite? Any retro games you would love to see the artist tackle next? CAPS LOCK GO!

Wow, I was thinking -just yesterday- about how an HD re-imagination of LoZ-aLttP could look with the same camera perspective and whatnot.

Too kickass. Thanks for pointing it out.

Now we need to badger the big companies until this shit happens.

These are better than anything I've seen featured on Art Attack.

Awesome.

I really like the zelda one. I would love a 2d zelda game with that painted look to it, kind of minish capish. Metroid one is pretty cool, I like the lighting effect on the gun. Would have loved to see a Gradius one but I guess that might have been boring/bland.

They look beautiful but I think to interact and see them in motion would be a headache. With that amount of detail you'd lose track of your sprite.

Like Jim said, I don't think they're intended to look like screenshots anyway.

That looks amazing! The Super Metroid one is my wallpaper now.

But do you know what the sad part is? No videogame company is ever going to give a mega-franchise this kind of treatment... ever! Sure, we'll get to see games like Aquaria and Braid like this, but a 2D Metroid, Zelda, Mario and Sonic? Never!

Absolutely beautiful, every single one. Though I'm not quite sure what exactly the Mickey Mouse game is supposed to be.

I would LOVE to see Megaman 2 reworked, along with 1942, Goemon/Mystical Ninja and Stryder

I don't believe I forgot it, but OF COURSE I would be downright tickled if they reworked an Earthworm Jim game to this quality. Whether it be just a screenshot or a full game...I'm getting giddy!!!

The Mario ones are like they are running on the Braid engine. The ALttP one is amazing too. I don't like the Metroid or Mega Man ones though. They're nice drawings but wouldn't look good as games.

I will raise the money to accompany this guy to Japan and personally felate Shiggy, Aonuma, even the janitor, if it gets me one step closer to one day realizing that A Link to the Past remake. Hell, I just want my children, or my children's children, to be able to experience that.

Or I'll just wish really hard.

I just went O_O at the Rocket Knight Adventures image.

Honestly, these are all great, and the Yoshi's Island image shows off the colours magnificently.

Hamza is going to need to display this artist sometime.

yeah, I also agree with Jim here. While they are superb drawings, they are only drawings and I wouldn't call this topic or w/e high def videogaming. But hey, that Zelda one is my new wallpaper, Its just gorgeous!
