BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra are holding a

As an American my knowledge of the British Broadcasting Company is limited to what Jim Sterling has told me, Monty Python and the song at the end of Austin Powers. The BBC does radio as well as television it turns out and that radio station, the BBC Radio 1, will be jam packed full of awesome come May 22-25 as they are hosting their Big Gaming Weekend.

For that weekend BBC Radio 1 and Xtra1, which I'm sure the UK readers of the site know, will be playing gaming music on the radio, presenting reviews and featuring gaming leaderboards between Radio 1's superstar DJs. The main event though is the listener chosen top three games of all time. The radio station has had the top 100 games of all time picked out by a group of gaming industry experts and will be presenting them for the general public's voting on May 22. The results will be given on the 25th. If you don't live in the UK, but think this sounds like a great way to spend Memorial Day weekend never fear, BBC Radio 1 is streaming.

Snap prediction: This is gonna be wank.

Radio one has been rubbish since Peel died, pandering to the masses and replaying the same shit every day for weeks on end, rather than trying to introduce listeners to new music.

Once the Radio One listeners votes are in, their top game will either be a Mario, Zelda, GTA or Fifa/Pro Evo.

@kittwalker

So, your saying that Mario, Zelda or GTA dont deserve to be voted as number one games? Have you seen ANY top 100 list in the past 3 years?

also,

"Radio one has been rubbish since Peel died, pandering to the masses and replaying the same shit every day for weeks on end, rather than trying to introduce listeners to new music. "

True. But, how about them trying to introduce a weekend dedicated to video games? Or them trying to get a group of industry experts to accumulate their top 100? Would be nice to give it a chance and hope it turns out well, rather than tell the world how wank its gonna be, huh!?

Besides 'Super Metroid' should come 1st in any top 100 list :P FTW

Also to the yanks hoping to listen, Radio 1's streaming runs using the sainted iPlayer I believe. Funded by the licence fee and therefore not available outside the UK.

Give us Hulu and we may reconsider.

Nope, radio is available outside the UK. Lower bitrate, but available. And Radio 1 is on Sirius in the US too.
