BBC on XBL, OMG WTF LOL

BBC on XBL, OMG WTF LOL photo

Did you see what I did there? With the abbreviations? Yeah, I'm pretty awesome for that. Apparently there's some news outside of the awesome headline I did, so let's talk about that for a little bit as well. Microsoft is currently talking with the BBC to bring its vast amount to content to Xbox Live, including its range of TV programmes in delicious high definition. For the longest time, Europe has gone without a downloadable TV service like that which is enjoyed across the ocean, but these new plans should hopefully change all that.

Unsurprisingly, shows like Planet Earth are high on Microsoft's wish list, but I would hope to see some classic comedy such as The League of Gentlemen (pictured) and Bottom make the cut as well. Provided it's not three-year old episodes of Bargain Hunt or The Slaters: Banged Up, I believe Auntie Beeb could give a significant boost to Xbox Live.

[Danke, Justin]

I have no idea what any of that is. Moar stuff on XBL is a good thing.

But you won't get crucial programming like Pimp My Ride!

Bottom was terrible. Let's skip all that riff raff and just have Fawlty Towers and The Young Ones,

I second Owlicks, both are awesome shows.

OWLICKS: Actually, Bottom was far better than Young Ones. It was more tightly written, had better jokes and superior characterization. Young Ones is an utter mess by comparison and the most overrated of Rik and Ade's work.

Fawlty Towers all the way and also a few dashes of the Mighty Boosh would be awesome

I liked Bottom better than The Young Ones, but I was also older when I saw it so that might be a big factor. The most obvious choice would be to put Monty Python on there of course, anyone will have an episode they want snuggly on their HDD won't they?

I just fear for a dutch XBL tv deal, it will be 99% reality :(

Zephet: I won't argue with some Mighty Boosh.

I really hope they bring over Top Gear, Clarkson's Meet the neighbors, or Jame May's 20th Century. Great shows and good entertainment indeed.

Hmmm...never heard of half these shows. Guess I'll have to start doing some 'research' (Youtube) to figure out what all the hub-bub is about. However I could definitely go for some Mr. Hell Show on XBL. I picked up the DVD set online after watching some skits on the 'tube.

I figured this was coming after I saw the Torchwood picture pack and theme. Should be nice, get some Phoenix Nights, Peep Show, and of course eventually Little Britain. But I def buy in for Young Ones. And I agree with slee, Channel 4 has some great stuff like The IT Crowd. The one thing I really want though is Snuff Box!

I'd rather have the ability to put on some films in DivX or the like on an xbox that downloading thigns I won't be able to use anywhere else. If I have to pay a licence fee AND then pay microsoft for tv I think I'll pass.

I watched an episode or two of Planet Earth. that was an amazing program. I would pay top dollar for that in Hi-def

Honestly, I don't watch TV shows or movies on my 360. It's gaming or nothing.

Little Britain in hi def????
None of these shows will be HD unless they have been shot on film and mastered at this res. Most unlikely. Planet Earth is probably the only show in 720p. Only the newer stuff has the chance of being shot in HD.

As probably the ONLY Australian who has heard of The League of Gentlemen, let me just say a big FUCK YES.

Funniest show ever.

Bottom was definitely not "tightly written". It was completely hit or miss and the characters were TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY derived from The Young Ones.

It was like "Vyvyn and Rick ten years later, lolz". No thanks.

I'll compromise. We can leave both Bottom and The Young Ones out for Father Ted.

I said it was MORE tightly written, and it very much was. It had a semblance of cohesive plot and the characters were actually more fleshed out. I like Young Ones a lot, I just don't think it holds up compared to Bottom and is very overrated for what was, in essence, a bunch of young guys fucking around with a camera.
