I'm not the only one in the Destructoid staff room putting extra creases in his trousers for Bayonetta. It's definitely one of our most anticipated games of 2009, which is why we're eager to talk about it any time we can. Thankfully, Edge has given us a fresh excuse, with some extra gameplay details and words from director Hideki Kamiya.
Climax Action is a term you've probably heard about this game, and the skinny is that it's a philosophy Platinum Games takes seriously with Bayonetta. It is being promised that backtracking and problem solving are not the order of the day -- it's all about non-stop action and killing everything as fast as possible. With levels that boast disintegrating levels to keep the player moving and giant demon angel that uses two snakes as weapons, I can believe that Platinum is doing good work.
Arena battles, combo chains, set-pieces and plenty of boss battles are all on the cards. It might not be sophisticated, but it's looking ridiculously fun, and a kick in the pants of the action genre. Even the main character is intended as a fresh lick of paint to the scene.
"Characters created to date have always been male, which brings with it a certain persona," Kamiya claims. "I thought it would be interesting and challenging to implement a unique persona for female characters as well. Bayonetta’s very sexy, very smooth."
Smooth sexiness on top of intense combat and snake-wielding angels. I'm definitely in.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
"Baaaaaad Boooooiiiii!"
It looks like a Dante like game mixed with Folklore with one of my favorite porn-secretary as the main character...
Yep I am going to get it.
Did they just say no backtracking? No DMC4, PoP Bullshit?
awesome!
no backtracking! great! can't wait to buttonmash for hours on end with such a sexy woman at my fingertips :-)
Also if this is anything like God Hand, it will be awesome.
Also--perhaps I'm taking this quote out of context--there have been PLENTY of female protagonists in action games. Christ, Lara Croft is more than enough to disprove this "all-male" idea.
DO WANT
Too obvious?
