Damn it all! I was really hoping to get my murderous hands on Bayonetta before the year was out, but it seems that Platinum Games' sexy and ludicrous action title won't coming to the roundeye countries until January of next year. Sega has confirmed that it'll ship in 2010, meaning we'll just have to sit tight and wait.
Japan will be enjoying the game on October 29th, along with a sweet pre-order bonus CD. That said, this is probably a very wise decision on the part of Sega. There will be very little competition after Christmas, with most publishers shooting their loads in November for the run-up to Christmas. January 2010 is a very sensible release window, and hopefully it leads to this game doing well.
From what I've played of the game, Bayonetta definitely deserves success. It's just going to be an excruciating wait.
SEGA can confirm that Bayonetta will release across Western Markets in January 2010. This follows the Japanese launch of the game dated for later this year on October 29th.
“Bayonetta is an extremely important new IP for SEGA and adds a new level of depth to our growing portfolio. As a result of market analysis we have taken a Publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the Western Markets to maximize this exciting new title's potential,” said Mike Hayes, President and COO for SEGA West.
Bayonetta created a huge buzz at this year’s E3 where it was critically acclaimed by the press, picking up numerous best of show nominations and ultimately winning 1Up.com’s Best Action Game of the convention. This highly anticipated 3D action title developed by PlatinumGames will be appearing at GamesCom in Cologne this August.
