Bayonetta confirmed for January 2010 in America and Europe photo

Damn it all! I was really hoping to get my murderous hands on Bayonetta before the year was out, but it seems that Platinum Games' sexy and ludicrous action title won't coming to the roundeye countries until January of next year. Sega has confirmed that it'll ship in 2010, meaning we'll just have to sit tight and wait.

Japan will be enjoying the game on October 29th, along with a sweet pre-order bonus CD. That said, this is probably a very wise decision on the part of Sega. There will be very little competition after Christmas, with most publishers shooting their loads in November for the run-up to Christmas. January 2010 is a very sensible release window, and hopefully it leads to this game doing well.

From what I've played of the game, Bayonetta definitely deserves success. It's just going to be an excruciating wait.

SEGA can confirm that Bayonetta will release across Western Markets in January 2010. This follows the Japanese launch of the game dated for later this year on October 29th.

“Bayonetta is an extremely important new IP for SEGA and adds a new level of depth to our growing portfolio. As a result of market analysis we have taken a Publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the Western Markets to maximize this exciting new title's potential,” said Mike Hayes, President and COO for SEGA West.

Bayonetta created a huge buzz at this year’s E3 where it was critically acclaimed by the press, picking up numerous best of show nominations and ultimately winning 1Up.com’s Best Action Game of the convention. This highly anticipated 3D action title developed by PlatinumGames will be appearing at GamesCom in Cologne this August.

They could delay it another year, slap a giant price tag on it, and I'll still happily buy six copies on launch.

I'm surprised more games don't come out in January. I'd think it would be a hot release time with most people having breezed through their November/December 8 hr blockbusters by then and looking for something new.

bioshock 2 I could take, and losing MAG hurt a bit, but why bayonetta, Uncharted 2 and COD4 2 better kick ass or i'll be pissed.

well that sucks, but is better in the long run for three reasons

1. Like with the delay of BioShock 2, I now have more breathing room between games in the holiday season.
2. This game was supposed to come out the same month as Brutal Legend (Rocktober) and I'm not quite sure my psyche could endure so much awesome in one month
3. My birthday is in January, so like hell I'm gonna pay for this game!

this was definitely going to be one of the fall games i was going to get along with modern warfare 2. Upsetting but it will probably sell better and be something to look forward to after the holiday season

God damn it all. How can one GAME scare so many others? Im thinking next year all the games will actually release all at the same time and then it's October 2008 all over again.

That stinks....now there are 4 major releases in January....I don't know why everyone keeps saying there are no other releases....Darksiders, BioShock 2,
Dante's Inferno, Bayonetta, and possibly two others...I hope I have enough Christmas cash to buy them all in January......

The fact that this comes out in Japan in OCTOBER, I'm surprised you guys even thought about it hitting stateside this year. Hell, to be honest, I'm surprised it's this early. I'm actually rather happy at this news.
