Battlestar Galactica fangame demo out: kill Cylons til the space-cows come home

In case you're irritated over the season three finale to Battlestar Galactica (not the finale itself, just the fact that it'll be half a year before any new episodes get made), then be thankful that some hardcore BSG fans have created a standalone Freespace 2 mod taking place in the Battlestar universe.

It's called Beyond the Red Line, and, though the mod is not technically done yet, they've posted a demo for us sci-fi nerds to enjoy.

I haven't played it yet, but there are two things you should know: firstly, that if you didn't know already, Battlestar Galactica is one of the best sci-fi shows still on television (next to Doctor Who); and secondly, that this demo is a standlone product that does not require you to own Freespace 2

Regardless of whether or not you're a fan of the show, you're not only getting a free game demo (with a working multiplayer option, no less), but you're also showing your support for these independent developers who appear to have invested a lot of time and effort into a mod solely because they liked the source material so much.

I have seen this mod around 3 years ago, along with the Star Fox one, looks it's almost finished.

Here's hoping they don't wind up getting Foxed.

Demo wouldn't work for me. But I'm a massive BSG fan, so I'll have to investigate further.

I'm 2 eps away from finishing season 1, and ironically I was thinking all weekend about posting Monday morning on Dtoid asking how Freespace was, since the show has gotten me all revved up to play a space game like this.

I will have to get Freespace now and definitely try the demo out in the meantime.
