Pigs apparently can fly after all. DICE's microtransaction-supported, free-to-play Battlefield Heroes silently launched today after being in beta for what, five years? Alright, so it wasn't really that long, but it's been a significant amount of time.
Upon hitting up the game's Web site, I noticed there's now the option to purchase Battlefield Heroes' currency, Battlefunds, with actual money, and you can even use PayPal. For those not in the know, players can essentially buy stuff that will change their hero's appearance (among other things), such as goofy outfits and the like.
Despite being an easy target for looking similar to Team Fortress 2, it's not a bad game at all. In fact, I would recommend it for those in need of a decent summer time waster on the cheap.

Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied:
"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Woooohooooo, I guess!
Verdict: meh!
The difference between free and 20 bucks (TF2) shows.
Any ingame benefits that you have to pay for instantly break this shit.
This is why I can't play in half the TF2 servers and this is why I wont play this...
All of TF2's newest weapons are sidegrades, not upgrades (except the Medic). They only encourage different playstyles.
Installed, won't play. Free isn't an excuse if they can't make a game that runs, and dozens of other people have the same non-starting issue.
Oh CHARMING! "Not Enough Arguments" greets my attempt to use the unistaller.exe.
Also, launch from browser = fail.
Something thats been in dev and beta this long shouldn't be a failpile at public launch.
"Any ingame benefits that you have to pay for instantly break this shit."
Anything that gives gameplay advantage are purchased with a separate currency (Valor Points) earned by playing. The stuff you can buy with the pay currency (Battle Funds) are only time savers to help you earn XP or Valor Points faster and clothing.
