Battlefield Heroes: 2 million served and counting photo

The free-to-play -- or Play4Free, as EA dubs it -- Battlefield Heroes has reached 2 million registered player accounts. While such a number seems awfully high, when you take into consideration the whole "it costs no money" aspect, perhaps it's not as successful as you might think on impulse.

Alternatively, I could be way out of line here. There aren't exactly many other free big-name games with comparable production values in existence, so it's a tough call to make. Whatever the case may be, a bunch of people have played Battlefield Heroes, which is good even if, say, you don't like the game.

Why? It (hopefully) means good things for those of us who want more free-to-play games, assuming the Battlefield Heroes' model is still profitable. I suppose it must be, since they are putting out a "Heroes of the Fall" update on September 30 that adds a new Fall-themed map among other things.

Neat though I must admit I lost complete and total interest in Battlefield Heroes very quickly.

It looks like now they have four maps (not including this upcoming fall one) so it's worth looking at again I suppose.

I'm all about the BF Heroes. My one major gripe is that you can't launch the game on my desktop. Sometimes I really am in the mood to play but the chore of having to go to site, launch it, close my browser, then play. It can get old after while. Also, more maps.

Not being able to swap classes mid game destroys any tactical teamwork that may have ever been present. Games go to the team with the most gunners.

this game sucks so hard. It's not fun it over simplifies everything to point of redundancy and boredom.

Its good that they're adding another map, because its been a long time since I have played it, which was mostly due to the fact that playing with only 3 maps got boring really fast. Its fine for something that's free, but if its boring, than its not going to hold peoples attention for too long. So the more maps they put out the better it will be!

I really love the art direction and humor of this game, even if it copies TF2. For some reason though, I just don't enjoy the gameplay. Also, the lack of an IM system makes setting up matches with friends kinda hard without aim or msn.

That's cool, I guess. What I played of BF Heroes didn't really interest me that much (the lack of maps was a huge factor, as well as my connection to the servers or something). But updates are always cool, and I guess they make a decent amount of money off of people buying the upgrades and stuff (I would if I could stay connected to the game for more than 10 minutes at a time).
