Battlefield: Bad Company 2 to have WWII level(s) photo

We just can't get away from World War II in our war games, can we? According to an ESRB's description, the upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is going to begin in World War II and then progress forward in to the modern day and age.

If you'd like it straight from the judgmental horse's mouth here it is: "In single-player mode, players conduct missions on an unnamed Japanese island during World War II and then move into the modern day through jungles, deserts, and snowy terrain."

The Battlefield series has been all over the place in time spectrum, so this isn't that surprising. However, it could be EA DICE testing the waters of the WWII setting once again. Maybe it's actually tying in Battlefield: 1942 to the storyline. That would fit with the island theme. If I had to put money on something, I would wager that the early WWII level(s) is actually just the tutorial stage, and won't actually have that much to do with the plot of the game, but we shall see.

I really don't see DICE going back to WW2 unless it's another remake of their older games, so I bet this probably is just the tutorial.

Flashbacks would be fun. Maybe serving to parallel two similar events in separate wars?

Hmmm... could be an interesting transition to how Bad Company started? Or maybe just a tutorial? Either way, this sparks my interest to see how the transition is done.

In Bad Company 1, the main character talks about how his grandfather fought in WWII. Boom.

Oop my bad. It says it in the instruction booklet: "I'm Preston Marlowe. You know, when I grew up all I ever wanted to be was a soldier. Runs in the family, I guess. My dad was in Vietnam. My grandfather fought the Nazis. Me, I just couldn't wait to get out there and fight for truth, justice, and the American way."

Man, I love the way the internet spoils everything, hahah. Would have been such a nice little surprise to have this little treat at the start of the game to surprise you.

My bet is that you play the WWII level as a tutorial and it ties into the main as one of the single player character's relatives.

I'm betting it does tie into the story, in that the japanese had some superweapon project that the russians later advanced.

The demo has the m1 garand and the tomson as unlockables for the full game so it must be some joke there gonna do refrencing battlefield 1942.

DICE said back when 1942 was released that you'd get to use some of those same weapons in BC2. I guess this is what they were talking about.

I'm keeping an eye out for it.

My bet is that whatever money or treasure your looking for this time around was lost(or initially found) in WWII. The time you play in that era will be the discovery and loss of that treasure/stash/item.

It would be cool if they had a ww2 gametype for the multiplayer because I'll wager that 1943 is basically dead after this releases. Kind of a thank you for making that title such a success.

I don't understand WW2 obsession in shooters and other genres. Do something else for once, guyz!

That said, still buying this. Liking the demo...Though I don't really like the map in the demo.

I'm down. The Frostbite engine will rock socks on the PC, so finally getting some proper (destructible!) WWII battlefields would be pretty sweet. Is the gaming landscape totally inundated with WWII shit already? Yes. But World at War was a bunch of garbage and i've yet to see a solid current-gen title do it right. Ans since it's not the focus of the whole game, it could be a cool aside.
