Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has no party chat limitations photo

While it won't be something we can exactly track, I am so interested in seeing how successful Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be now that so many people are pissed over the botched PC version of Modern Warfare 2. Or could it be they aren't really boycotting anything? Exactly! Hence my excitement.

When Infinity Ward announced there would be no dedicated servers, a bunch of other developers followed suit by announcing the opposite for their respective games. One such game was Bad Company 2, which appears to be gaining a new fanbase from ex-IW fans.

Now, according to MTV Multiplayer, DICE is taking it up a notch. Unlike Infinity Ward, this studio feels using party chat in multiplayer to cheat isn't "that big of an issue." As such, Bad Company 2 won't have any restrictions on when and where you can use Xbox LIVE's private chat system.

Was this a good move? I happen to think so.

Remember when EA used to be the evil publisher we loved to hate?

Oh this is definitely good news for me. The one and only reason why my friends and I don't play MW2's multiplayer with each other that much is because we can't be in a party unless we play one of the horrible clusterfuck modes like Ground War.

At least with BC2, we'll be able to kill people AND have a private conversation without some jackass trying to interject themselves into it.

Plus, there's that huge "PHLOOMP" sound effect that happens whenever something explodes near you.

@Brlito: Battlefield isn't as big as MW, but it's still a huge name in the military fps genre. If it's actually good, I can see it selling a shit ton. Maybe not as much as MW, but it could position Battlefield 3 to take the crown back.

If they can make a game on par with MW2, then I'll definitely be supporting this. I hope for the sake of dedicated servers that this game is successful. I would really hate to see the demise of user-created mods because developers are afraid of pirates.

The beta is fucking great! Way more fun than MW2.

Just not quite as good as the MAG beta.

Next year is going to be awesome.

I never even ventured into the multiplayer for Bad Company, maybe I will this time around.

Probably not.

Really? I can't stand the MAG beta. It feels like the world's most generic FPS with a HUD that's far too busy and a really unappealing visual style.

I've really loved the BC2 beta, though. I can only hope they end up balancing the classes a bit better so Engineers aren't so overpowered. I also really hope they'll offer a new map soon.

Battlefield is pretty awesome. It might take a little longer to get used to than Modern Warfare but once you know what the hell is going on it's really good. It's a shame not that many of my friends played Bad Company, I hope it's gonna be better with this one.

And using private chat on the 360? It's all good. It's not Socom or MW2's Search and Destroy or anything like it. It probably doesn't even help you that much.

I loved the first Bad Company, but the lack of modes really dented its longevity for me. Gold Rush was fine, but Conquest was just predictable. The chat was restricted to squads anyway, so I don't see the big fuss. You all had the same goal in mind, so it was no biggie without the mics.

I enjoyed Bad Company a lot, so I probably would've purchased anyway. The party chat thing is just a bonus. I used party chat so I could talk to my friends instead of the normal mouth breathing ass jackers on XBL. I was telling people about how MS was going to ban people for the javelin glitch, and got told I was a fag ass noob that just can't play.

So yeah, bring back party chat.

This is good news, even though I won't play this on a console. It was silly of IW to make that change but they've done a lot of silly things with MW2.
All I need now in BC2 is leaning :D

@DUNKPuppyT: why does that matter? battlefield 2 only had conquest and that game wasn't exactly a failure. bad company had 2 modes and theres still a large user base for that game. a lot of game modes doesn't equal a superior game. sure it doesnt hurt to have more, but they are also not necessary

You can still use private chat to talk to other people

I don't know why MW2 didn't allow party chat, but black your screen out when you die on the modes where it matters. It seems so simple...

I really don't understand all the hype for the Bad Company series. I've been playing the Battlefield franchise since '42 released, and it's honestly not all that amazing. Sure, it fills a certain niche but it's never been the second coming of Jesus.

On the other hand, I loved Modern Warfare's combat system. I think it's great fun, and an awesome mix of arcade and tactical gameplay. I enjoyed CoD:MW's multiplayer far more than Bad Company's (or, in all honesty, any Battlefield game that came before it).

In short, I don't get the whole "I hate Modern Warfare, because I'm so indie" mentality.

Oh wait...I guess I do....

I enjoyed COD4:MW but as far asI've been told MW2 is more of the same and it got a bit old for me awhile back.

Though i still frequently play BC after a stint of six months away from it, it's still lots of fun.

All it would take is one update or patch (possibly packed alongside a map pack we all know will sell millions of copies) for IW to roll back the chat feature to match BC2 and all will be even again. Except for the vehicles and destructible environments. But still... at this point the goal of overthrowing MW2 keeps just getting loftier and loftier, despite the fact I enjoy quality competition.

I still think it's crazy that BC2 doesn't launch for another 2 and a half months.

But yeah, when you're on the winning team this game is freakin' amazing. I just finished a match where four of us defended the last A objective like champs, running down their ticker from the 40s. My hands are still shaking a bit haha.

Modern Warfare will never beat battlefield.

Not even the arcade game, what other game could have you shoot down an Attack Chopper with a MBT from half a mile away?

*BOOM, FIZZLE, CRASH*

@steve, really?

I fucking loved the mag beta! It felt like counter strike, but on a massive scale!

I was only in the beta for the last two weeks but put way over 30 hours in.

I found the gritty art style a little off putting at first but once i was used to the lack of "shine" from mw2 it was awesome!

Plenty of squad leader action was had too, and wow.

Each to their own like, but i had moar fun in the mag beta than bc2. But bc2 is damn good nevertheless.

I love bad company, best multiplayer experience i've had in years, I don't know why exactly,it's pretty basic, but I also find it brilliant.
