This is absurd.
WHY DO YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING WE'RE PAYING FOR ALREADY?
Unless you mean the consoles, then yeah, but then, they'll never be more used copies than new, unless BF3 is horrid shit.
EA only host it so they can expire the game anyway.
Tah-dah. Problem solved.
At least they dont force proprietary accounts on us. Sure they took out Dedicated servers on MW2 for PC but at least they didnt force us to sign up for a specific account and shut down the servers for MW2 online play 2 years later.
Plus now with all this Origin bull crap and Subscription services that offer little to no actual value being forced down our throats Im just getting fed up with them as a company.
Im done with you for now EA.
Again, they want us to feel like they're losing money. They have great PR departments paid to make it sound that way. In fact, the online component of games of BF3's caliber make insane amounts of money for the publisher, they simply want more money than that.
These AAA shooters are the perfect game to do this with, its a trickle down strategy. Do this with your huge games that people simply wont be able to resist buying, and you'll expose a huge number of consumers to it all at once. Let those people live with it for a while, and it'll be easier to convince them to just go with it in the future. In the case of fanatical gamers, people may even start defending it as an extension of defending everything about their favorite games.
These online passes are part of an even larger trickle down strategy. Get people used to their online play being monetized without any real need, and you can start monetizing other things. I think that in the near future, you'll be required to pay for more than a single playthrough, that is where I think this is going. Want to let your friend borrow the game after you've beaten it? That'll need a $9.99 Offline Pass, because your friend is killing the industry.
Do you not think that MW3 will do the same thing? Oh they will also charge you to track your stats to recoup the costs of their dedicated servers....
Dedicated servers is also awesome news that I did not know about!
Day 1 all the way!
But as far as the whole servers thing, it seems like he was just looking for an excuse to explain why they would probably use the VIP/Online pass.
My problem with companies who implement online pass systems is that not only do they alienate people who buy used, they also say "fuck you" to the people who have more than one person playing the game with different online accounts, like say, me. For games like Battlefield, which I know for a fact my brother and I will both play, we end up spending $70 instead of just 60 because we had the gall to not buy two copies of the game. This is the type of shit that makes me just say fuck it and not buy it at all, but it seems I can't do that without being unable to play 50% of the games I want to play. I fucking hate the video games industry sometimes...
THIS
Booo. I guess they gave up on the awesome idea of rewarding gamers with content like they did with BC2 limited edition.
it's gotten to the point where companies can easily get away with it. Most casual players who pick this game up won't even be aware of this whole situation, and those of us that are aware and complain about it, get called "crying babies" by shortsighted idiots who don't ruin they are screwing the game industry by enabling these bullshit companies.
hahahahahahahahah
It's a dreary future, alright. I'm just happy it starts with a genre I'm not particularly interested in. Just the same, it's amusing how those second-hand copies are demonized when the majority of games can be bought brand new, passes and all, for about third of their original asking price just a few months after their release :)
Used Sales are a good thing for a gamer on the cheap. It saves people a lot of money in this recession we're in. But, devs are so blinded by money loss, they'll make up excuses saying the money isn't going to the devs or publishers. So, online passes are made.
EA, Please be cool and bring back the VIP system in BF3. This will make you money, dammit.
I am buying it anyway :)
i totally agree, plus its not like these companies dont make more money then we will ever see in a life time
greed,let the sin begin LOL
Atleast with Halo/Call Of Duty when you go the non-new route your getting all the regular content with the OPTION to buy more. I just think it's silly that a few Dtoiders had to convince someone to buy an online pass so we could all play together on more than 2 maps.
What? Account handling has been programmed, tested and used since fucking forever. This is BS.
Server space? An account wouldn't use 10Gb or something and anyway HDD space is fucking cheap. And also, you use the resources from the new buyer to hold the used buyer.
Fuck you EA
Making it even more appealing to wait for it used, even more so if you don't want to play online
