Battlefield 3's flashlight getting patched photo

Destructoid has learned that DICE plans on fixing the flashlight issue in Battlefield 3. Currently, the flashlight is as bright as the sun, even when out in the open in broad daylight. The patch will address this issue by making the flashlight brighter than the sun. DICE has also stated that there's a 95% chance your eyeballs will melt in their sockets.

Actually, DICE is finally fixing the flashlight issue by scaling the brightness back thanks to all of the community feedback they've received. One would like to also presumably believe that DICE is changing the flashlight because they finally actually went outside on a sunny day to see what happens when you're aiming a flashlight at someone across an open field.

I think all the flashlights should be replaced with fleshlights, that would make the game much more fun!

They should have just taken it out all together, but this'll do.

taken out of the game??? I don't think so. It makes tactical sense in dark lit areas but should be useless in the day time. As that is not the case. Glad its being addressed. Thanks DICE! uh hum, private servers please?

Great, it took them this long to address the single most obvious, easy to fix problem that every player knew needed fixing since the beta.

At this rate in another four years they might fix enough to make this game something other than total shit. (Actually I don't want to create any false hopes. This would require firing at least half the design team, rebuilding the engine from scratch, and switching publishers.)

As long as it still blinds the fuck out of people up close in dark areas.inside I will be happy turtle as you try and stand 10 feet away and I shine my mag light at you, you will be blind.

I actually really like the light (just not friendly light) because snipers leave their light on and you can pick them off from oh so far away.

Sometimes that light from snipers is the lens glare, not a flashlight. Lens glare is awesome, fuck snipers.

It's called a tactical light, not a flashlight. It's supposed to blind you, dummy.

Yay, next they can get rid of the glitch that allows you to farm points by jerking off your repair bot.

Noooooooooooooooo!

I seriously loved this. Why does DICE not realize that everything that makes their games dumb is what makes them fun. I like BEING blinded by a f*cking flashlight! I like sitting on a jet while someone takes off!

Keep these things in your games. It's what makes them different than military shooter x. Doesn't anybody remember how to laugh in this industry?

Hopefully people still use it, shooting idiots in the dark is so much easier when they're lit up.

Actually in reality those tactical lights WILL blind you even in full daylight. They are extraordinarily bright.

That said I think they are stupid in this game and only really detract from the gameplay, so I'm happy they are being toned down. They tweeted a comparison image about a week ago and it was much better.

The flashlight only bothered me until JonBloodspray pointed out that it makes them incredibly easy to hit because you just shoot towards the center of it.

I support the fleshlight initiative though. It'll make those lonely nights just a little more bearable.

Common sense prevailed. Actually all lights are overstated in games, but this one took the honours for being irrationally stupid. The muzzle flash, for instance. The sun beats them all by so much.

However, in dark environments, they need to increase the relative intensity. I guess they have HDR and dynamic exposure, (exposure, of flesh?) so it should be easy to scale according to the current exposure levels.

I love the flashlights just as they are, I mean I don't use them and if i do i know that awesome tip that sooooo many seem to be ignorant of...

YOU CAN TURN THEM OFF.

I love it when i see a little flashlight walking across the desert, super easy marksman points.

Fucking finally, i'm tired of those ridiculous lights. Even 700 lumens in daylight arent enough to flood your vision unless youre about 4-7 feet in front of it and focusing on the bulb. Now if only something could be done about the heavy amount of shitty players that dont contribute to the team in kills or captures.

Sexualchocolate:
It is not so much about that I turn it off, it is about people flashing it in my eyes and that I'm getting blinded by it. So you got it the wrong way.

I'm glad the flashlight overpowering the sun is good for you as a marksman sitting 200 meters away, but it is a nuisance for us in close bombat.

No. Just no. It's a tac light. They ARE that bright. I'd say patch it so when used you see spots for 20-30 seconds after. That's how they work. Yes even in broad daylight a tac light WILL blind you. Anyone complaining about it hasn't had one shined in their face guaranteed.
Dear dice. Fix the boosters and leave the tac light alone please.
