Destructoid has learned that DICE plans on fixing the flashlight issue in Battlefield 3. Currently, the flashlight is as bright as the sun, even when out in the open in broad daylight. The patch will address this issue by making the flashlight brighter than the sun. DICE has also stated that there's a 95% chance your eyeballs will melt in their sockets.
Actually, DICE is finally fixing the flashlight issue by scaling the brightness back thanks to all of the community feedback they've received. One would like to also presumably believe that DICE is changing the flashlight because they finally actually went outside on a sunny day to see what happens when you're aiming a flashlight at someone across an open field.

Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
At this rate in another four years they might fix enough to make this game something other than total shit. (Actually I don't want to create any false hopes. This would require firing at least half the design team, rebuilding the engine from scratch, and switching publishers.)
I actually really like the light (just not friendly light) because snipers leave their light on and you can pick them off from oh so far away.
i agree
I seriously loved this. Why does DICE not realize that everything that makes their games dumb is what makes them fun. I like BEING blinded by a f*cking flashlight! I like sitting on a jet while someone takes off!
Keep these things in your games. It's what makes them different than military shooter x. Doesn't anybody remember how to laugh in this industry?
That said I think they are stupid in this game and only really detract from the gameplay, so I'm happy they are being toned down. They tweeted a comparison image about a week ago and it was much better.
I support the fleshlight initiative though. It'll make those lonely nights just a little more bearable.
However, in dark environments, they need to increase the relative intensity. I guess they have HDR and dynamic exposure, (exposure, of flesh?) so it should be easy to scale according to the current exposure levels.
YOU CAN TURN THEM OFF.
I love it when i see a little flashlight walking across the desert, super easy marksman points.
It is not so much about that I turn it off, it is about people flashing it in my eyes and that I'm getting blinded by it. So you got it the wrong way.
I'm glad the flashlight overpowering the sun is good for you as a marksman sitting 200 meters away, but it is a nuisance for us in close bombat.
Dear dice. Fix the boosters and leave the tac light alone please.
