Battlefield 1943 is a huge hit, servers still being added photo

As a follow up from yesterday's report on the state of Battlefield 1943, we have some good news as well as some bad. While EA DICE has been adding server after server to remedy the connection problems many players are facing, we're not in the clear just yet.

Producer Gordon Van Dyke has brought us an update on the game's forums:

With servers catching up to capacity needs we were able to confirm an issue other than capacity is affecting playing with friends. We are aggressively working on this to have it fixed ASAP and agree with comments that not being able to play with friends is unacceptable making it very important to fix. It is very unlikely to be client side and needs fixing within our network infrastructure.

That ... doesn't sound very promising. With more than 80,000 people playing the Xbox LIVE Arcade version of Battlefield 1943 at launch, it was difficult enough getting into a quick match, but trying to jump in a room with friends? Persistence is the name of the game.

On the bright side, it looks like it won't be long before the community reaches 43 million kills and the fourth map unlocks. Still, you have to wonder, did people not think this game was going to be a success? It's got Battlefield in the name, you know.

Their immediately update a mere hours after launch stated that their staff was forgoing sleep "going on 24 hours, after a previous 4 hour of sleep day" just to address the issues.

Take notes, Epic Games. Gears 2 STILL isn't fixed.

As for the actual game, it's fantastic. I think every FPS fan should own it (and I'm not really an FPS fan).

Ya i downloaded it yesterday and when i can get into a match, the game is amazing. Pure Battlefield Awesomeness. Its running on the frostbite engine. The most impressive thing about the engine are the explosions and the sound. Its awesome. buy it.

Hell I don't like Battlefield or EA, but 14.99? How can you pass that up?

They do deserve props for trying to fix everything as quickly as possible. It's funny how once you're in a match, you're good. No lag, no problems, nothing.

@Grim

Absolutely right. That's the good thing about it. I couldn't get in a game at first. Just tried a bit longer and presto! Got in and no lag whatsoever. The voice-chat on the PS3 version could use some minor adjustments though.

Perhaps they shouldve spent more time developing BF 1943 than BF Heroes.

If you've played one Battlefield you've played them all. Battlefield = American Dynasty Warriors

The game is really good, but it was a pain trying to get into a match the first couple of days on the 360. Today was a totally different story though, I got into every match that I played on the first try.

Awesome game, but alas it took 15 attempts before I could find a game to play in, and then it was laggy as hell. This was an hour ago.

And forget about finding a squad game. Every time I've tried it searches for a game, finds one and then says 'Match could not be joined'. At which point it kicks your squad mate out of the room and you have to press back, then re-enter the squad room, then resend an invite, only to search for a game and get that exact same message again. I did this about 10 times before giving up.

Can't wait til it works 'cos the game itself is sweeet.

I can't wait until I go to Best Buy today and get a PS Store card. I've been playing the demo for the past few hours, totally wicked fun.
