Battleblock Theater adds finale mode
The curtain has yet to rise for Battleblock Theater, but the fine folks over at The Behemoth are still hard at work adding content and finishing touches for what will hopefully be a 2012 premiere. At this year's PAX East, they were kind enough to show us the new finale mode, an addition to the end of each of the game's eight chapters. Battleblock Theater is meant to be played at top speed, racing through alternate puzzle solutions and relying on tricky time based maneuvering and vertical exploration to reach your end goal. With the finale mode the insanity is only heightened, requiring you pass through checkpoints to add seconds to an ever dwindling timer. As level designer Aaron Jungjohann tells me, this mode is meant to up the ante, placing more pressure on the player to go as fast as they can, increasing the sense of panic and hopefully, the difficulty. As for that elusive BBT release date, I asked "So what do you think, this year, right? I mean it'd be insane if it didn't." To this I got a "Well, yeah, you'd think so, I mean look at all this content!" While it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in a 2012 release, the game is looking so complete that I'd be very surprised if it didn't come out this year. 'Course I also predicted April 2012, and that ain't happening either. What I'm saying is, I'm dumb and Battleblock Theater will come out when it comes out. It's a long sucky wait but with a game this devilishly fun, packed with Behemoth's signature whimsy and style, it's well worth it. Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)Just not excited for this anymore, and that footage just doesn't do anything for me. Too little too late. I can't wait for it to come out on XBLA so I can wait another year for it to come out on PSN. Love the Behemoth use to play the crap out of Alien Hominid when it was on Newgrounds, then I bought the PS2 version and loved it. I hope they make Alien Hominid 2 one day. I agree with Exu, the hype for the game kinda already peaked. I'm sure it will be a good game and I'll give the trial a chance but I'm just not pumped for it anymore. Gonna be great I have no doubt. I have no problem waiting either considering I still play AH and CC to this day. These guys make great long lasting games. I hate when devs announce something YEARS before they intend on release their game......
Also this game needs a level editor, like the PDA games had. I really want to love this game but I'm not sure where the fun is. At least the character seem cool. Interesting. I seem to be having the opposite reaction of many commenters. I initially had little to no interest in this, but after watching that video, I just had a tinge of interest start to pop up. This seems like a game that could be fun if you have a friend to play it with... probably somewhat less interesting solo. Just thought I would point that out, just in case anyone wanted to change the defualt no/image to their own image (in the external javascript file), to blend in with their own blog colors.

After nearly five years of development time, BattleBlock Theater is finally here. | 11:00 PM on 11.03.2011 BattleBlock Theater is all about being cool |

BattleBlock Theater, by The Behemoth, has humor, murder, cuteness and now ice. A new video has just been released with some gameplay footage that introduces prisoner #10330 and the ice levels. While I would have liked some more voiced story trailers, this one shows off the game, so I suppose I'm okay with it. The real question here is, can that guy narrate my life?more
| 6:46 PM on 08.28.2011 Battleblock Theater is Battlebloody Brilliant |

A hi-res, hand-drawn, downloadable game in which cute characters are imprisoned by maniacal cats who force them to act in lethal plays for their amusement. Sounds like a game from The Behemoth to me! I played Battleblock Theater at PAX this weekend and was so impressed I made sure it got a Destructoid Game of the Show nomination. It was just that much silly, outrageous, beautifully violent fun!more
