Gamespot recently compared the graphics of seven different games, all of which are available for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. There are roll-over images for each game, so you will be able to witness the duel in real time.

Not surprisingly, the 360 managed to trump the PS3 graphically in most of the titles. Developers have had plenty of time to become better acquainted with Xbox 360 and it's starting to show. The PS3 on the other hand, is supposed to be a pain in the ass to develop for and has only just been released.

We'll have to wait another year before we can see the true potential of these systems. But in the meantime, head on over to Gamespot for the glorious images.

Comparison will never be fair and i'll tell you why: "Developers have had plenty of time to become better acquainted with Xbox 360 and it's starting to show. The PS3 on the other hand, is supposed to be a pain in the ass to develop for and has only just been released."

If(when) the Xbox looks better next year the same thing will be said only adjusted for time.

" Developers have had 2 years with the Xbox 360 and only 1 year with the PS3"

This is idiotic shit sites do to drive traffic. Works every time too, cause the majority don't know the difference between games designed specifically for the PS3 and one designed for all consoles.

Stupid shit.

360 wins right now but PS3 may pass it eventually or they'll be even. Either way it doesn't matter STFUAJPG.

It's pretty sad that devs don't spend more time improving ports. But, that's exactly why exclusives are such a good thing.

well it would be silly to compare the graphics on the 360 and the PS3 with PS3 exclusive games, because the 360 graphics would just be a blank screen...

All joking aside though, Gamespot does take the time at the end of the comparison to make it clear that they're comparing first generation PS3 software with second gen 360 software, and the real comparison can't be made until next year. Of course Sony fanboys are going to be up in arms about something like this, but that seems odd considering this is pretty much what should be expected. Gamespot's point is still well taken: It might be better to wait until developers can really take advantage of the PS3's power to dish out 600 bucks for it, because right now there's just not that much difference.

Gamespot is one of my favorite websites. I don't really see any difference in any of the screen shots, except for a few lighting differences. I believe this is due to the graphical differences in the titles, not the hardware.

I've given myself a headache trying to see the differences. The PS3 screens seem a little brighter, but that is absolutely all I can discern. When they're this comperable, what's the bloody difference?

I guess that's why I'm getting a Wii (if I can find one!!!).

Gamespot is what's wrong with gaming journalism. Along with IGN/Gamespy and 1up, they form the holy trinity of SUCK.

Most if not all the differences are related to brightness and contrast.

Yeah, that's extremely biased of Gamespot. Of course the ports won't look very different, they're ports. The frame rates they mentioned, on the other hand, are a legitimate concern, though not really the subject of the article.

I'll care when I get a 100" quantum pixel 2560p television. Why not do a framerate comparison instead?

But...but...the cell processor! Blu-Ray!

Seriously, the only people who really care about this s--t are "fanboys" and nitpickers (often one in the same). We get it: target renders were bulls--t, and the 360/PS3 are going to be pushing out very similar looking games.

I'd rather spend time playing the games (on either system) than trying to figure out which one has better grass textures; more free flowing jerseys; and glistening sweat dripping from the bodies of muscular men.

It's hard not to want to compare consoles, especially with Sony's two plus years of chest banging about the power of the PS3. But you've seen one, you've seen 'em all.

So much Ps3's 10 year lifespan

Well that's exactly it -- the 360 versions of most of these games have (arguably) better online play and no slowdown issues. As you can see in these pics, the graphics are the same, which gives 360 the upper hand. If anything this is living proof that you shouldn't buy these games on PS3 if you have a 360.

I have a feeling 2nd gen PS3 games will improve quite a bit, but the PS3 being a new system doesn't explain the differences in texture detail. Most of the PS3 texture were pretty bad with the exception of the b-ball and boxing games. Look at the close-up on the Tony Hawk game that shows the road, BIG difference. (last image)

Wait a minutes, Summa. Did you just say that this idiotic shit is what websites do to drive traffic? Funny you should highlight one and link to it then.

This wouldn't be an issue if Sony would have kept their traps shut about how much better they were and if they perhaps released a version that was cheaper than 5 to 600 dollars.

Well I think its pretty clear that the PS3 has the much more expensive image than the 360 at this point...

Image brightness/contrast can be easily solved, Gamspot editors should know that. And its not realism i want, hyperrealism is way sweeter.
