Batman sequel likely if people enjoy the game photo

Rocksteady’s lead narrative designer Paul Crocker has recently been discussing Batman: Arkham Asylum with VG247. Much like the rest of the world they liked the game and put the question to him of whether or not Rocksteady would be making a sequel. He responded with a statement that would normally get him the Captain Obvious award of the week, but in this case only receives a very confused look. “We’re just waiting to see if people like the game,” he said.

Waiting to see if people do what now? Like it? He's talking about Batman: Arkham Asylum, the almost universally acclaimed, highly scored on Destructoid, Rev ranted, beloved rebirth of Batman in gaming, right? No, he can't be. He must be talking about some other game starring Batman that isn't already obviously one of the hottest games of the year. I realize that sales numbers take a little while to trickle in, Paul, but we've got our fingers on the pulse of gaming here and it's a pretty safe bet that people like your game, so get with the sequel making.

Crocker declined to comment on any DLC plans during VG247's interview, but did say that it exists.

Spell check yo title Cowzilla!

They'll probably give the 360 side the Joker DLC for a price.

"We’re just waiting to see if people like the game,"

He's obviously playing dumb with that one. They'll do it, I have faith.

I hope they bring back Mr. Freeze as a boss, Arnold Schwarzenegger edition.

I was thinking the 360 would get the Joker for a price, too, but the exclusiveness is printed in the PS3 version's manual and everything, so I'm seriously doubting now. It'll be pretty nuts if it doesn't happen, though.

Don't quote me on this one but I also heard that DC is considering making a few more Batman comic books as well. Nothing's official though; they're still feeling things out.

While I was playing, I couldn't help but think of how difficult it would be to make a sequel to this game that wouldn't feel like a complete retread. I think the only real answer would be to take it out of Arkham, but Arkham was more than half the charm of the game.

Sandbox version of Gothem with Two-Face and Scarecrow teaming up please. Firefly needs to be in it too.

I heard that Nintendo might make more Mario games. They're just waiting to see if people like Mario.

I loved it, just about to reach 100% in my normal playthrough. After that I'll play it on hard I guess.

I would be interested in a sequel, definitely.

But I wonder how they'll keep it from getting stale?

True, but a Gotham City setting would have its own potential for an equally charming--but drastically different--experience. Still, I can't help but fear that a Gotham City setting would lack the detail of the first game. Personally I wouldn't mind if the game was limited to certain parts of Gotham City, as long as it meant the developers could give it the richness it deserves.

I just ordered this. I liked the demo, I hope I enjoy the game. (I wouldn't buy it without a demo, so I thank Eidos for being brave)

I suggest they just let it go, they had a surprisingly good run, now let it live with it's respect still intact, without any bad sequel fucking with it's rep.

Instead of a sequel, how about making another superhero game awesome? Or making an entire game where you play the Joker/Harley just fucking with people's minds?

I'm all for a sequel if it's done correctly. They could take it in any number of directions, but I hope they take the best parts of this game and focus on how to make them even better in a different game environment.

If not, at least they have this to their credit.

First things first

"Batman sequel likely if people BUY the game"

fix'd!, now to bussiness

[Captain Obvious]
So a new IP could extend and become a franchise to keep cashing on the success of said IP if it is good and sells well? that's insane and unheard of before!
[/Captain Obvious]

Well, as long as the sequel (let's not kid ourselves, it's probably already in production as we type) is as polished and well made or even better than the original, yeah, i don't care, more good games for us.

I don't know, the concept of a man dressing up as a bat and fighting criminals seems to me like a novelty at best. I don't think people would get behind a second game.

Not at all surprised, I suggested they say this after all the positive reviews. This is Square Eidos we are talking about.

And why not? I'm sure there's plenty of Batman comic material, that more games can be built upon. Obviously they'll open up access to Gotham, allowing more use of vehicles, gadgets etc, perhaps make the city breathe with more supporting characters and such, maybe side mission of different types of crime going on, beside dealing with the main event of the game. There's plenty that can be done, while building upon what's made it great.

Are you crazy? Gamers will get behind this just like Bioshock 2. There's nothing wrong with wanting more of a good thing.

No, they will not be producing a sequel to this amazing game... Instead Rocksteady is working on a direct sequel to Batman:Dark Tomorrow.

I like how no one has fed the trolls, good work lads! The them park idea is great, here's what I've got...I think this is gold so I want a check if this is the plot!

A year in the life of batman ala The Long Halloween, the chapters are different months....and Robin has been kidnapped, you are searching for him through the various rouge gallery, mobsters and such. With each month batman loses it a bit more getting darker and darker.

If the do a sequel, I hope they tease it with an hour long demo of atman creeping around a tanker ship. Then when the game releases, gamers will find out that the tanker level is the only level with Batman and the rest of the game is played a Robin. Yeah, that's what I want.

I do praise that they've managed pull off an original batman game storyline with little/no fan anger. I don't get where they would put a sequel though.

I support the idea of a Gotham sandboxer... but here would be a few things I'd suggest for a sequel.

-Refine the stealth system, make it a little more challenging and Splinter Cell-ish.

-DONT CHANGE THE COMBAT AT ALL.

-Various costumes please (DLC, etc)

-Get more of the Batman: TAS voice actors, except for maybe Scarecrow and Ivy.

-Make more use of Batman instilling fear on enemies, it was passingly done in Arkham... however I wouldn't mind seeing fear be more integrated into the game.

-Use more "video game ready" villains who can translate well into bosses (Freeze, Hush, Clayface, Ra's, etc)

and last but not least...

-Find some way to have Batman beat the shit out of Superman.

I think the combat is cool, but could do with some tweaking, like learning new moves as you go along.

Perhaps option of simple or complex fighting styles.

I'd love to see Batman vs Predator played out, but that's wishful thinking crossover stuff.

I'd would to see more of those lesser known character from the series, like Ink

I think the next game should take place in just the slums or just uptown or something like that. So that way, it can be as detailed.
