I'm a GameFly renter who can't afford buying new games, seeing as I play so many of them. I'm sad I won't get to play everything in Batman. I'm disappointed the dev team had to devise ways of limiting content in order to maximize profit. And I'm frustrated that fellow gamers are mocking me because they can afford the full $60, and that since I can't I deserve a less complete game.
good thing I'm buying it new then but what about people who don't have online? They should have a a way to redeem at a web page, give you code or something, input that into game and you can access Catwoman without online redemption
id did the same thing with the sewers in Rage. Seems to be the way single player games are going. I'm kind of fine with it personally, it's not stuff that makes or breaks the game, but it's a little extra for people who bought the game new.

They didn't call it an online pass. The gaming media did. Nothing in WBs statement ever mentioned the words "online pass." And yeah, same thing Rage did and everyone was fine with it.

@fullmetalfox: And, yet, I stand by the assessment. Now that it's becoming more and more of an a la carte system, if I wanted to buy used, I can choose not to play the Catwoman segments if they wind up being crappy and save ten bucks. That sounds good to me.

I just realized that they basically just gave me an incentive to buy it used, since either way I'm not getting Catwoman but used will be cheaper.
This is dumb. I don't like having to wait for a GOTY edition to get all the day-1 content. will buy used.

I pre-ordered it, so this doesn't really matter to me. WB has been pretty awful with their online passes AND DLC, so I wasn't really expecting Batman to get away without some kind of used gamer hating locked content.
That's a surprise for me, because I thought Catwoman is playable character in the actual game, like in the story. So you need an online pass for that? I got Arkham City pre-ordered anyways, but I think they should have pointed that out when they showed a Catwoman trailer. I thought she was in the game from the start, feels like I've been tricked a bit. I would've been okay with that if I knew about it from the start.
Also HEL105 has a point. We take online access for granted, but what if your console is not connected to the internet? You buy the game new, but they fuck you over a bit, by excluding the content that should've been in the game in the first place.
Again, that shouldn't concern me because I'm buying it new, but it's just not fair.

-buy new in a few months for cheaper, pay less, still get pass for free. publisher gets less and makes nothing on the pass. we win. they lose out on 20$-30$.
-buy used for lessish, and get pass for 10$. publisher gets 10$ on top of an already paid 60-40$ price when the original person bought it new. store gets the used game price,wins.publisher gets 10$(win?). smart consumer pays more for cut content,loses.

The problem as I see it, is that the line between "bonus content" and content they just cut from the game and now call bonus, is a fuzzy one. I'm fairly certain if online passes didn't exist, these features would just come with the game. You can call it a semantic argument, but along with DLC, we seem to be getting less and less with our game purchases.
To make a poor analogy, I see it less like buying an extra side serving at a restaurant and more like buying a steak at a restaurant and them charging you extra to cook it, in my humble opinion.

All kidding aside, the thing I dislike about this announcement is how late in the cycle it came. Most previews/trailers up to this point had Catwoman shown as a part of regular campaign (albeit a small part) but now she's just a bonus like the Robin/Nightwing challenge rooms.
And ten bucks is way too much for that amount of content. It's just a bonus feature, while you can buy whole games for 10 dollars in PSN.

You do have a point, but it's only true for the US market, and some European countries. While in the rest of the world, you can sometimes wait for half a year and the price will drop for only a few bucks.

So true. Nintendo has the crappiest network service, but, ironically enough, this new online-pass trend actually works in Nintendo's favor since their service probably can't use such a function, making Nintendo not look like greedy douchebags like Sony and MS.

What about the PC version you fucking douchebags (not Dtoid)? All we ever hear about is DLC for PS3 and 360, but RS strategically neglects to mention what will be available for the PC version with every announcement. I'm not paying a goddamn penny for DLC after waiting just play the same game 2 weeks after consolers. Every ounce of this fucking DLC including the Robin pack better be free or included with the PC version or I'm not buying it. Period!

I saw a video a while ago that looked like their paths intertwined and you just switch between who's perspective you're playing from. So without the pass you just get Batman's part, or don't get to play it all?
This isn't about having to pay $10 for a portion of the game.
This is about single player content being cut from the game in a way that makes it unplayable without an internet connection or 20 years in the future when PSN/XBLA inevitably shut down or evolve into a different service. Meanwhile, I can play my 20-year-old copy of Super Mario World just fine without being locked out of Vanilla Dome just because I don't have an internet connection.

I had no MAJOR issue with the online passes.....at least not anymore, this just pisses me right off. Me and my bro went halfsies on one copy.....and now I'm gonna hafta drop an extra 10 bucks on this to enjoy the same experience? (we don't live together) This is a single player game.....what is honestly the point? Seriously, someone tell me what possible excuse there is for this.

Not really, you buy the game, throw in an annoyingly long code, you have the catwoman stuff. It's an incentive to stop people buying used, or get money from the ones that are. So just buy new. Problem. Solved.

Exactly, but you get the same amount of content because with the online consoles, they purposely cut content to sell next to the game as DLC on day 1; with the Wii, all that content just comes on the disc. You don't have to pay extra for a "Galaxy Pack" for SMG or have an online connection to very the code that came packaged with the game.
