Well, I just realised I own every single game on that list.

Arkham City is a cool game. Although I felt it tried to do too many things at once. Again,it's a cool game.
Like you Jim, I don't like the fact that there's only 6 games up on the list. That's a shoddy top 10. Other than that I'm not overly bothered by it, but I am pretty surprised Uncharted 3 didn't make the list.

This is utterly beyond me. I loved Arkham asylum and Arkham city, and I'm currently playing through the latter for the second time, but it is by no means the best game of the year. It's not even a matter of subjective opinion.
Batman AC was a fine game, but a bit overrated. It deserves the high marks, but i think some of the reason games like that get the highest scores is because it doesn't do anything to annoy people.
With certain types of games from certain kinds of companies, it is a magnet for hipster hate and ritalin rage, so it gets bashed when its not really necessary. How do you bash a good batman game? you can't.

Bollocks, I say! Arkham City does a TERRIBLE job introducing you to the play mechanics. Not everyone has played AA before. I played City for 2 hours and threw up my hands. Not even the combat was satisfying. It felt like a bunch of button mashing shyte. AC over Skyrim or Saint's Row the Third? Sheer bollocks! *Commence Nerd Rage*
As good as the Mass Effect series is (I can't wait to play 3), mass effect didn't come out this year. Skyward Sword deserves its place here IMO. And I agree jim, having different versions on the same list is kind of a cop-out.

If the company making the best product (as stated in this story) dont develop for it YES YES that platform is shit. Fanboys aside you dont by a console because you love sony or ms' hardware you buy it for the games that will be on it. never is someone like "buy the xbox cuz it has a better dashboard and avatar system fuck that sony home shit!" No im not a member of the PC "Master Race"

Just because some people like what Nintendo has become over the last couple years doesn't change the fact that only nintendo makes the games on their own system worth playing (yes ofcourse "worth" is up for debate lets just use game reviews) From what little has been seen of the Wii-u it looks like this will continue into the next "gen" really just a wii 2.0. Nintendo will still have the hardware of 10 years ago and even less outside companies will show interest in them especially now that xbox and playstation have their own motion gimmicks.

Some people need to calm down.. The game isn't being marked game of the year, its being marked best reviewed. Theres a big difference thats all in the details.
I'm more then happy that this game gets best reviewed. In my heart its probably my favorite game of the year but I know its not game of the year.
as for Minecraft: play the game, you find what you like and don't like about it and you grade it. Its not all that hard even if it isn't finished. It works exactly like an MMO, but maybe looser. I know D-toid frowns on reviewing MMOs, but these things can be reviewed as long as theres an understanding in the community that the review is only valid as of the day the article is published, as the game might change in many ways.. Games with long beta cycles like SWTOR and Minecraft seem perfect for scoring semi-correctly because people have more or less been playing the same things with only slight tweeks for -hell- almost a year now, if not more.
As for the ending talk.. AC was far far FAAAARRR better then AA in terms of ending. AA left holes too and some of those holes weren't all that covered in AC (actually, one in particular was left to an easter egg if you found it), if anything AC actually made some of the holes bigger. Doesn't mean either game is better or worse for it.
