Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 listed for October 2010 photo

Batman: Arkham Asylum was released less than a year ago, but don't let that stop the sequel! According to Warner Bros. Interactive's German wing, Arkham Asylum 2 could arrive as early as October of this year. That's certainly the current listing for it, ahead of any officially announced release date.

Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 was revealed at last year's Spike VGA show, although little more than a teaser trailer was shown. The original game received rave reviews and several Game of the Year nominations, including here at Destructoid.

Warner Bros. has denied the release date and pulled the info, but the info was definitely there.

What say you? Are you ready for more of the Bat in October, or do you think that's not enough development time? Speak your brain on the matter, by all means!

Will it be even Asylumier than the first?

generally one year is not long enough to develop a really good game

I loved the first game, but this just feels too soon. It's not like Bioshock, where the very idea of a sequel is a crime, but this is the kind of thing that causes franchise burnout, and fast. I don't care if the game is good. Batman is not Madden.

Please let this not come out this year. I'd like another quality game not an annualized sequel

I guess they started working on the game as soon as the original was finished, which has given them a few months already. They're probably using a lot of the same assets, the engine's already in place...it sounds pretty doable to me.

So when Valve does it, the internet is up in arms demanding justification to drop more money on "the same game", but when it's a batman game- the internet demands it come out on Halloween... am I missing something here?

L4D2 proved that development time does not equal quality. if Rocksteady can come up witha quality title that innovates on the first one it doesn't matter how much time between sequels there is.

I'm fine with this as long as they improve the first. More gadgets and fighting moves, more variety in the goons and hopefully not the same bosses rehashed. I also hope it doesn't take place just at the Asylum but somewhere else in Gotham.

Eh... seems to be a little too soon. It's like when a little kid says something funny, they will say it again instantly to see if they can get the same reaction.

Take your time with Batman. Seriously though... it's going to be in the asylum again? Just that right there is a red flag to me.

That quickly? I really wanted to have a good long wait for the sequal
if they only do it a year after the last one it makes it look like a cash in! And that would really be devastating

I trust they won't release it until it's done. After all this is the publisher that was "totally cool" with the delay on the first one.

I hope to all that is good and pure that this doesn't come out anytime this year at all. Just too little development time to have created any kind of substantial game play for this.

Absolutely loved the first one... I can wait for a 2nd one to ferment.

The first games deadline was pushed back from the official release date. I see no reason to think an unofficial release date wouldn't be pushed back, also. I would not hold your breath for October.

@Steel Squirrel

The trailer clearly indicates it's not taking place in the Asylum again. It looks like they're taking inspiration from the No Man's Land story arc, in which Arkham is only featured very briefly.

AA was really really good. except for the joker boss battle. that was lame. should've let batman get all roid'ed up too. would have been more of an "OH SHIT" factor.
i didn't play it much after i finished it. definitely on board for the next. i wanna drive the bat-mobile, pilot the bat-wing, walk around wayne manor, be bruce wayne a lil, do a LOT more scarecrow weird type levels, and have a romantic encounter. if i can do just 2 of those in AA2, i'll be satisfied. in my opinion, AA version of batman and his equipment was perfect. i'm wondering what new gadgets they'll slap on ol' bats.

The first was god so its natural for them to want to do more soon, before someone else steals the thunder. We've already had Darksiders and Bayonetta be awesome in their own ways this year.

I hope they change the name, because if anything they should be trying to ditch it, while holding and encapsulating what made the first game good. Give players Gotham to explore, locations to move between and the Batcave to play with and retreat to. Throw in some Bat Girl, Robin and Nightwing action too, and maybe mix some them together, for some nice co-op play.

If we don't get this, I'll be disappointed, but I'll give them a chance to do the sequel justice.

I don’t understanding this boycott thing. If you don’t buy any product a car, a book because there is no need, you are only exercising your right. If a gamer decides not to buy a famous game he is a striker, a terrorist a saboteur or maybe a rebel with a cool sun glasses.

For me:
"- I will not buy X2 because disclaims pedophilia, Satanism, homophobia, collective suicide. Just pass this word on!"
That's boycott!

"-I will not buy X2 because I'm still playing X. I think it's too early."
This is not a boycott.

it's soon BUT the first one was delayed alot... and at the time eidos was really confident in the game.
so they probably where working on the story and concept of the second long before the release of the first one
and making a sequel fast mean they probably won't have the need to update the graphic too much...

this could be a good move and a great game

Here's something to chew on--we already know that the controls were about as perfect as they could get, save for a few little hiccups. What if the game was already in the process of being built in conjunction with the first? They certainly have the core down--now it's all about building the levels and the story. The dev time would be greatly reduced since the playability is ready to go.

Personally, I think it's too soon as well, but if they can back it up with as good of material as the original, I'm all for a new one this quick.

Solid Squirrel's got a point. There's no real need to improve on the controls, or hell even the graphics, of the first game. The modified Unreal 3 engine used in the first game is about as perfect as its going to get. So if that's ready to go, all they really need to do is to add some new combat moves, gadgets, do story, level design, and at the very least implement a driving mechanic so we can get behind the wheel of the Batmobile. Viewed that way, a year of development time doesn't seem so bad, does it?

And wtf is it with Destructoid members and squirrels?

What they *need* is a good story and good level design. I wouldn't cry if graphically it looked like AA, or handled the same - that game was pretty much perfect.

If they get the story and levels right, then it'll be another first rate game.

They should be working on Half-Life 2: Episode 3 instead of releasing a sequel so soon that could easily be released as DLC. And where is all the free DLC?

Sorry, what was this story about again?

Ohh and lookin at the trailer it looks like there will be a sizeable chunk of Gotham to explore and hopefully drive around. I also think that it should stay as a single player game for me that worked so well with the first game
