Bass, Treble, and more Mega Man 10 DLC confirmed photo

Here it is folks, the latest videogame news, straight from my television set. That is how Bass and Treble will look in Mega Man 10. They'll be made available as playable characters via DLC on April 5th, for the cost of 200 Wii points. Also launching on April 5th is the first of three downloadable Special Stages for Mega Man 10, for a measly 100 Wii points. This stage will have it's own unique boss, though nothing else is known about it at this time.

Even later, on April 26th, we'll see the return of Endless Mode (one of my favorite aspects of Mega Man 9) for 300 Wii points. We'll also get not one, but two more Special Stages, again for one buck each. Of course, this all only applies to the WiiWare version of the game, and may not apply to the PSN an XBLA ports.

So far, I'm not sure that I like Mega Man 10 as much as Mega Man 9, but there is no arguing that the DLC is better this time around. Three new stages, and a character that has never before entered the realm of the low-res sprite. That's pretty much "the balls" for a retro-Mega Man fan like myself.

(And yes, I know Forte appeared on the Wonderswan version of Rockman and Forte. That doesn't count.)

Sounds neat. I mean, Challenge Mode was all I needed (well, and immediately playing as Proto Man makes me have to play it as him, too), but new stages are cool.

I'm really feeling MMX (lol). Like, IX was cool, but X...not only shares a name with another game in the series, but has been a blast.

Why can't they include this stuff WITH the actual game? Oh wait this is Capcom, and the "HD" generation, where we get nickel and dimed to death.

Mega Man 9 was okay, but I think I'll save my money for Cave Story and Art of Balance...

I think it's bullshit that Bass isn't unlockable in the actual game. I hate DLC.

@ NukaCola:

DLC can have it's merits, especially in games like Fallout 3, but I don't approve of any of this kind of crap that Capcom is notorious for, and I used to love Capcom...

No Zero yet? :( He was showed to be existent in the universe in Mega Man and Bass at the end when Willy was talking to Bass. He was just an outline but he was referred to as Zero and you could clearly tell it was him.

The Wii has DLC?

Next you're going to tell me I can download NES games on it. I don't like being lied to like this.

I don't understand why I would ANYONE would want to pay for this when you can find a game just like this online. I'm not talking about the entire MM10 game, just the DLC.

Capcom is a great company, their evil ways are just destroying the gaming industry.

+1

On principle alone I refuse to pay for features that these douchebag companies shamelessly leave out of the game just so they can charge us more money after the fact.

I'm glad Bass is DLC. I can keep my copy of Mega Man 10 clean of that virus...

Endless mode as DLC? Fair enough. I never really got deep into in 9, so i'm fine getting that in optional premium.

Spare stages for a buck? Sure why not.

Remember when Mega Man 1-6 were $50 a pop? I do.

Mega Man 10 is $18 for the full package, and is an excellent game. DLC for $60 games? I can see bitching at that EASILY, because often times it's huge things that were stricken from the disc. But $18 for a full Mega Man game? C'mon people.

I can atleast understand some of the outrage around 60 dollar games having extra content at launch, but this is 8 dollars on top of something that will either be 10 or 15 dollars. This is not content you are entitled to, it is not required to play the game nor is there evidence that this was "ripped out" and sold later.

If the game shipped with only 6 bosses, I would understand but they is evidence counter to that. This optional stuff that will allow you to extend the game past it original scope, either enjoy it or ignore it.

I've gotten more mileage out of games like Mega Man 9 with all it's DLC than full retail games and even the more expensive DLC games like Braid. It's a hell of a deal for the entertainment value imo.

I think others have already said it best when it comes to this DLC. They're nice little extras, some that extend the gameplay, or (in the case of Bass/Treble) give some fanservice flavor. All of which costs...what, the price of a VC SNES/Genesis game, and it's stuff you don't even need to enjoy the game proper? I can understand some aspects of the anti-DLC argument, but this is just silly.

Personally, after spending about an hour playing the game, I think I'll be spending enough time just trying to get my bearings. So far, I'm struggling more than I was with MM9. Between playing MM10 and Cho Aniki (which I also downloaded tonight), my hands have gotten an exercise that only old-school twitch gaming can provide.

Hey, you guys do what you want with your money, all I'm saying is, if it's such a fair and reasonable price, why aren't they selling it all for $18 out of the gate?
TheGameFreak's Avatar - Comment posted on 03/02/2010 03:05

Because you know as well as I do that people out there would bitch that they're paying almost $20 for a game without modern graphics/online multiplayer/etc, and with what they consider "useless fluff."

It seems things like this will only continue to lead into circular ranting.

Heh, then again... it IS the Internet.

@Prof.

These are all arguably great features, and would be worthy of a full boxed release at $30, which is what'd they'd probably have to charge to get everyone their reasonable share.

But, its a digital format. The versatility is there to offer a basic app and added value by pieces at a later date. You actually have a package that respects you as a consumer, more than "forcing" a larger ticket price for more "hardcore" features that some consumers may not want.

So they didn't make Bass's sprites look like that WHY? Good god are those ugly, just like Megaman's sprites.

Good god that Bass sprite! It's HIDEOUS! I was excited that Bass was being included in the game at first... but good god man! He looks like Ass! There is better sprites out there from other games, why don't they just use those? Why would they just take mega man's sprite and basically re-color it? It looks terrible!

I can't believe no-one is calling this whole jump back to NES days RETARDED. Hey guess what guys, I think the Final Fantasy series is going in the wrong direction. I think FFXV should be made to look EXACTLY like FFI. Scratch that, let's simplify the gameplay too. Wait a minute, I have a brilliant idea! Let's just use all the sprites from FF1 to make FFXV! It will save us money and the fans wont know the difference. They're THAT dumb! MUAHAHAHAHA...

Seriously guys, pixel glitching isn't good gameplay, its poor design. Yeah, Capcom loves you...

I can certainly tell you that I do not like Mega Man 10 as much as 9. The music isn't very catchy, the levels seem a little too hard in spots and the bosses are very...weak.

It's still a pretty good game, but I know I will not be indulging in any post-release DLC this time around. Bass included.

"Seriously guys, pixel glitching isn't good gameplay, its poor design. Yeah, Capcom loves you..."

If you're talking about the sprite flicker, that's an optional (repeat: OPTIONAL) effect the creators put it to further emulate the old NES MM games. But thanks for playing.

@ People complaining at Bass's sprite: What'd you expect? Something that looked different from the picture of Bass from MM9's ending? I'm surprised that anyone else is surprised at how Bass looks. Personally, I think he looks alright. Same goes for Treble.

Anyways, can't wait for the stuff. Looks like it'll be fun. :D

What a fucking scam! Capcom is deliberately taking this out of the full game so that they can charge extra, even though it's being developed alongside the game.

DLC shouldn't be made during the game, only after. Otherwise, keep it in the game with the rest of the code! Unless you want to be a dick like Capcom. For god's sake, the code for Bass is probably in the full game anyway. We just gotta pay to use it. God damn it, Capcom...
