Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden

     HAHA Weird!

About a year ago, we told you about the fan-made RPG Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden, which is a spiritual cousin to the 16-bit classic Barkley: Shut Up and Jam!. I LOL'd; you LOL'd. We moved on. Now Chapter 1 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa is available for download.

The story follows an aged Charles Barkley. It was his insanely powerful Chaos Dunk that led to the outlawing of basketball and the massacre of the world's greatest ballers. Twelve years later in 2053, Neo New York is hit by a Chaos Dunk, and Barkley is blamed for the destruction. This forces him to go underground to escape Michael Jordan and his B-Ball Removal Department. He sets out on a journey to find who was behind this Chaos Dunk as well as discover the secrets behind the terrorist organization B.L.O.O.D.M.O.S.E.S.

The game looked pretty nifty last year, but it has since seen a bit of a visual upgrade thanks to the power of DX10. I'm only about one hour into the game, but I've laughed about 20 times in that hour. No one should expect a next-gen RPG -- this is RPGMaker, folks. What you can expect is a silly, fun game with a battle system that is so stupid that its actually brilliant.

If battling through a post-cyberpocalyptic world with basketball powers is your thing, you can download Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden at Tales of Game's temporary page.

I loved the original demo. It's also cool how the basic attacks require skill and timing to deal good damage with.

I actually downloaded this earlier this week, it's pretty funny. The only part I don't like about it is every time you save you get a speech on how Japanese developers are better than western developers and that madden is stupid, it gets a little old.

Man, this is my lucky day. I thought they stopped making games aimed at me after Shaq Fu and Michael Jordan in Chaos in the Windy City.

Heard about this the other day and downloaded it. I'll probably get to it around mid-March though.

But hey, it looks cool.
