Barack Obama appears in Burnout Paradise, hope springs for Photoshop faithful photo
Videogames have never been immune to politicians, especially when it comes to violence. But using a videogame as a promotion device? That’s a new one. According to a trusted GamePolitics source supplying pictures, it appears as though Barack Obama is now targeting the “I like driving fast” demographic via Burnout Paradise.

As you can see, it’s a billboard featuring Obama’s face and a message which states that early voting has begun. It also has a handy URL for helping voters find places where they can toss down that early, but important vote.

If this is a Photoshop (probably is) then I’m amazed at the skill. If it’s not, then I’m amazed at the usage of resources by the Obama campaign. Can any of you confirm this? Assuming that this is real, do political ads in videogames bother you?

It was made by the McCain campaign. Now he'll be able to say that Obama thinks gamers can vote, and everyone knows the average age of gamers is 13. Old people afraid of GTA and Manhunt will flock to the polls and vote for him.

Or Obama's really awesome.

Or someone's really good with photoshop.

I like the first one best.

I don't mind in game ads. As long as they have no bearing on gameplay or there are an overbearing of them then its fine by me.

^ damn where's the edit button?

What I meant to say is that I don't mind in-game ads as long as there are not a large amount of them and that there are not a mass horde of them.

I'm getting tired of all these adds encouraging young people to vote. All these douchebag celebrities, and now game developers apparently, think that they're doing a big service to society by encouraging people to get out and "voice their opinion."

The problem is it's not really "their opinion". It's usually someone else's. Most people who don't vote don't have much interest in politics to begin with. When you convince them to vote by making them feel guilty or irresponsible for not voting, they usually just vote for whoever their family or friends are for. So basically all they really accomplish is that they cancel out the votes of other people who actually know what they're doing.

I agree with you mrplow8, but probably for different reasons. I think people who are forced to vote are usually woefully misinformed about most issues. I could say the same for people who vote for 1 reason, such as gay marriage, abortion, 'cause she's a woman, 'cause he's black.

I still think everyone should vote, but they should at least know why they're voting whichever way (and the consequences of said vote).

next thing will be in-game voting. they flash ads at you constantly but they promise to stop if you click a button that takes you to a virtual voting chamber. "vote and we'll stop shoving ads down your throat."
and people will be glad that it's back to nokia ads afterwards.

good thing this is too stupid of an idea to be true.

Whether the sign is real or not, or the voters who vote for one issue are smart or stupid, this is the US, and everyone has not just a right to vote, but an obligation to do so.

VOTE 3rd PARTY FOR EVERYTHING. McCain and Obama differ very little, they won't change anything. Both will keep a war going, both will ignore the constitution and let illegals get all the benefits and even more than actual citizens get, and they will both keep growing the federal gov't taking money away from US.

VOTE 3RD PARTY!!
