Band of Bugs gets playable Avatars, new DLC, and more photo

Now when I say Avatars are playable for the Xbox LIVE Arcade strategy game Band of Bugs, I mean exactly that. Your persona doesn't simply appear next to a score -- it'll be right up in the action, fighting your battles for you.

In addition to Band of Bugs getting the free Avatar update today, a few other things are happening as well. A new add-on, "Tales of Kaloki," also launched today. If the name sounds oddly familiar, that's because it brings in elements from another NinjaBee game, Outpost Kaloki X. The pack weighs in at 240 Microsoft Points, and for more info on it, head over here.

The third and final piece of the Band of Bugs puzzle is a Premium Theme (240 MS Points), which is now available for download from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. With all of this recent excitement, the game's developers are hosting a little shindig on July 11 from 7:00 to 10:00 PM EDT, so mark you calendar.

I really enjoyed the game, and it was well worth $10 (a very simple SRPG), but I never found the DLC packs (units, a few cosmetic changes) to be similarly worth buying.

What's the deal with putting Avatars in games with characters that are already far more interesting?

I just found the gameplay WAY too chunky. Couldn't get into it I'm afraid. I hope that XBLA Golf Game gets Avatar support though. That's pretty fun!
