Bad reviews made Force Unleashed devs unhappy photo

Nobody likes to get a bad review, not least the team who worked on last year's Star Wars hopeful, The Force Unleashed. It's clear that the team worked incredibly hard on making the game look impressive with believable Force powers. Unfortunately, they forgot about the gameplay part, and the team was pretty let down when some game reviewers felt that was an important oversight.

"I'd get these reviews, and I'd be like, "Aw, these guys are irresponsible. How could they say this?" explains LucasArts' Haden Blackman. "... but part of it, as you said, is that I'm watching this team that has worked so hard on this game for two, almost three years. And they're reading this stuff ... all the air gets sucked out of the room. People were miserable for the whole day. It's hard to keep them focused. And we were working on DLC already at this point, on Jedi Temple, so I'd say, You guys need to keep focused. Come on, it's just one review."

The closer you get to the industry and the people who work in it, it's harder to write a bad review without thinking about the people you're potentially upsetting. Unfortunately, a bad game is a bad game and a reviewer needs to say what they think without worrying that a developer is going to get the violins out. So yes, bad news for LucasArts, but if a game isn't very good, it isn't very good. Limited sympathy is in order.

I personally enjoyed this games very much. It had its big flaws (not being able to easily grip stuff with the force) but when you get a good handle it is just great how destructive you can get. And the story was good (much better than the prequels), but needed further plot and character development to truly make it great.

Here's an idea: if you don't like bad reviews, make a good game. If you don't know what a good game is, you should find another line of work.

I loved the time I spent with TFU, and had a blast. I actually found the story to be more compelling than the entire prequel trilogy put together. Sure, the targetting was a bit of a chore at first, and the super-powered stormtroopers defeated a lot of the purpose of 'unleashing' the Force, but it was still damn fun.

A good friend tells you the truth. Not what you want to hear.

Good friends stab you in the front.

I don't get the hard feelings about the game. It was enjoyable.

I think the reason it got so many bad reviews is because the critics were reminded that they aren't true gamers and suck outbreak monkey balls at playing games. i had no problem with this game and love replaying it. A real gamer doesn't get mad and bitch about a game they can't beat, we stop for a while formulate a plan and come back and conquer it and eventually master it. Too bad all the pussy's have the say on whether to buy or not.

I kind of liked it. The mechanics of the game were very fun to use and even though it was slightly clunky the combat was definitely fun.
