The follow-up to Battlefield: Bad Company hits retail shelves on March 2nd, 2010 in at least two different ways: as a normal dry bones box with disc and as a Limited Edition package. As usual, the LE package will come with some perks -- six multiplayer, “day one advantage” perks, to be specific.

But don’t expect to pay to more. According to the release, the LE version “will be sold at the same price as the standard version.”

So, let’s talk LE. As was teased moons ago, two vintage Battlefield 1943 weapons -- the M1A1 submachine gun and the M1911 -- will be gifted to those willing to dish out the extra coin for the expensive version of BC 2.

In addition to this, DICE is tossing in four vehicle “unlocks” that improve the armor rating, the firepower, and the mini-map radar thing. The latter comes in two forms, via a enhanced “Vehicle Motion Sensor” attachment and “Tracer Dart Pistol,” which can paint any vehicle allowing for easy tracking and lock-ons.

It’s unclear if these unlocks can actually be unlocked through some sort of progression system in the multiplayer component of the game, but if the LE version is being sold at the same price, it doesn’t seem to matter. That is, if this special version of the game isn’t a pre-order only thing -- which, by the way, isn’t mentioned in the press materials we’ve seen.

There's gotta be some catch, otherwise, why sell the regular version at all? I'm guessing it's pre-order only.

Um, how is anyone going to "shell out extra coin" for a version that “will be sold at the same price as the standard version.”???

Colour me confused.

The box art for this game is dumb as hell. "Defining online warfare," eh? Trying to compete with MW2 much?

I am excited for this game. I'm guess that the catch to the Limited Edition will be like what Dexter said: pre-order only.

Also @hoyt414: no shit it's trying to compete with Modern Warfare 2.

Also also: guessing*

It could even be that it's a LIMITED EDITION! As in only the first x amount of customers can get it. I suppose they could sell out of the LE on the pre orders but that'll be down to retailers.

ummm they did really define online warfare to extent. Battlefield has been doing online long before CoD:MW franchise even the CoD franchise. And in my opinion, Battlefield doesn't even have to compete, MW is crap.

Well, from the looks of it, they're not just competing...they're beating MW2 in certain respects.

Don't get me wrong. Smaller maps and just foot soldiers is nice...but BF seems more my style of game.

My guess, it just takes a long time to unlock these things so if you preorder and get the LE edition you start off with a slight advantage. No price hike, its just a preorder hike, which supposedly they didn't actually say so...*shrugs*

Maybe they're just EXPECTING people to preorder like crazy now since they don't want to not get the LE version of the game at lauchn?

What Satience said (thought I don't think that MW is "crap"). I've always played the Call of Duty games for their single player and the Battlefield games for their multiplayer. Just a personal preference.

This is a growing trend actually, they're trying to persuade you to buy new, rather than waiting for the price to drop on a used copy. By including all this, the idea is you'll want the game at launch. Forza 3 did it too, with DLC being included with the new retail copies. As to whether or not they're competing with MW2, you know they are. Say what you will, but MW will be the biggest launch of the season. Battlefield used to be great, but they slowly started killing the series with abominations like Battlefield 2 Modern Combat. Bad Company wasn't bad, but it could have been much better. If they can learn from their mistakes BC2 could really be a threat to MW2. As far as I'm concerned they can both exist though, I'll most likely buy this when it comes out.

@Drakengard BF2 did have the infantry only mode added in after a while which is quite nice. I wouldn't be surprised to see it in BC2 as well.

I like both games, This and COD. COD is very very good on foot and small maps. But Bad Company was GREAT with tanks, and destroying things. I cant wait for Both. That M1911 looks kick ass, is it me or do the trailers for BC2 just look awesome?

This offers a glimpse into the philosophy of BF:3. Its all eyes on Dice since IW seemed to have blundered so badly.

This advantage to LE owners will unbalance the multiplayer game. This is bullshit.
