NaturalMotion believes that its Euphoria engine is a groundbreaking bit of technology. But in case its use in Grand Theft Auto IV and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed didn't blow you away, the studio has filmed a second developer diary for Backbreaker to try and convince you of the engine's power and importance in a realistic simulation of football.
As for me, I'm already sold on what Euphoria brings to a videogame, and I'm very excited for Backbreaker's release for PS3 and 360 on May 18th. Check out the first developer diary for more on the game.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I really hope sports games enthusiast take note of this game. It might not be NFL, but that shouldn't matter so long as the game is incredibly fun to play. The NFL is just recognizable names and teams, but it really doesn't enhance the game outside of the familiarity aspect.
Hell, I have little interest in sports games and this genuinely has my interest caught, if only because the technical side of the Euphoria engine is just so damn amazing to hear the developers talk about.
I really can't believe EA turned NaturalMotion down. How do you justify using canned animations in sports games when the technology to do so much better is handed to you on a silver platter? Perhaps they didn't want to make too much work for themselves, and keep all the old systems in place?
Yes, the lack of real teams is a huge downside, but I hope this sells well. Wanting Backbreaker to beat the next NFL game would be silly, but I hope they can at least snatch a slice of the market from EA; that would perhaps make them reconsider.
I also hope Red Dead Redemption turns out great. Those two games, released in such close proximity, might finally make enough of a splash for other developers to seriously consider the tech.
Im wondering why not more games do use this amazing engine(GTA4/SW:FU/RDR).
But in a American Football game(yikes)? Do they realy believe a AF fan does recognise the difference of a scripted takle or even care about?
@Drakengard- I'm thrilled that EA didn't pick this up. They already have too much of my money for the crappy football games they make.
But this will be great for games in the el futuristo
As much as I love Lugaru and Overgrowth, it sounds like he's just ticked off about getting so many emails about it and wants everyone to shut up. Not to mention he is complaining the the VERY FIRST GAMES EVER TO USE IT do not look like their fucking tech demos. Hahahaha, seriously, that is just ludicrous.
"Euphoria, as the cohesive product that has been presented to the public, does not exist". First of all, it hasn't been presented as some amazing physics based garden of eden that takes the need for animation completely out of the equation, and thinking that any system, especially a physics/motion engine like Euphoria, can just be lumped in to a game without hassle or outsider input is ridiculous. Of course you are going to need somebody that knows how to use the program, thats just common sense.
All systems require hard coding, nothing can ever be completely dynamic. Automated systems always have a need for user input, and thinking otherwise is just ignorant.
Yes do they do. That mean they own the sport though.
And yes, English/German people talking about american football. That'll be because they're the developers of an american football game.
oh man a hockey game like this would be amazing.
also euphoria horses in red dead revolver!!!!
NaturalMotion also make a similar program for movie production; Endorphin. The free learning edition is avaliable =http://www.naturalmotion.com/ele.htm]here. It's loads of fun to mess around with.
Also, I didn't know that was used in GTAIV. That explains why it's so fun to jump in front of cars.
You mean ICEBREAKER AMIRITE?!
Kidding aside, they DID copyright the name.
