Time for a change. I like it when character get a major costume change for once in 10 years. This isn't like the DmC change.
wierd. they've always had a ton of alternate costumes anyways in previos Doa's so i dont get any hate.
It just so happens that 14 year olds in hot pants are my idea of a good time. Hoorah!!!!
I'm cool with these costumes, and this being a DOA game you know there will be about 10 more per character. It's not like they pulled a Ninja Theory and warped the charcters into something fans will find unrecognizable.

haven't played a DOA game since the dreamcast... and these costumes don't do anything to make me want to. not that costumes really make a game. its more about gameplay i'd say...

See I think the thing here is DOA has always sold itself on two things. The girls being scantily clad and that it was the forerunner in the field of jiggle physics. So they are cutting out two of their previously pivotal marketing angles.
My guess would be because Nintendo was apprehensive about having a title with a reputation like that on the DS. So much like the SNES cut out the blood in Mortal Kombat they seem to be toning down the Sexy on the 3DS.
Honestly don't really care tho I haven't touched a DOA game since DOA2 for the PS2. There are better Fighting games out there I tend to lean towards MvC and SoulCalibur tho the newest Streetfighter looks darn good.

Ayane needs to take off that hat. Otherwise, they look good. DOA has always been one of the most 'fun' fighters, right up there with Smash Brothers for me.
@lastduel: That's actually a mask on her head. One of those wierd japanese festival things. I don't mind Ayanes costume, better than some of the crappy costumes they've put in for the last couple of games but Kasumi just doesn't look right. It should at least be blue!
I remember actually quite liking Dead or Alive 2 for Dreamcast, and actually appreciating its gameplay.
A deviation from the whole "let's make this embarrassing to buy" formula is probably a good thing.
I'm with everyone else about the mask/hat thing on Ayane's head- remove that and it looks fine, fresh even. I dig Kasumi's and although it is weird to see her in such atypical colors, it looks cools.
I hope they add some characters to the franchise though, because these two girls (and Lei Fang) were pretty much all I'd ever use, and it's weird to have no decent male characters to play (Ryu doesn't count because he's the only person in the entire tournament that's fully dressed, even overly so, and it's just a weird juxtaposition).

The costumes look fine except for, as mentioned, the stupid hat/ribbon/stupid fucking black blob on Ayane's head. 'bout time they got new outfits... Poor Ayane and Kasumi have been rocking the same look since the first game. Knowing Team Ninja, the originals will be unlockable anyway.

Ayane's actually suits her very well and isn't too far off of her original concept, as any long-time fans of the series would know; that said, I'm not feeling the mask really, unless they realised their mistake of showing her with Genra's mask in the early screens and have replaced it with that one.

The problem Jim, is that you used the word "pants" which has NO place in a description of a DOA game...I knew Tecmo would fuck this up without Itagaki. And why is Kasumi dressed like a tree?

I really like Kasumi's new outfit, Ayane's is not so great, but it's nice to see that they're moving away from showing as much skin as possible while still looking like "ninjas".
DOA2 was great, series really went downhill from there, here's to hoping that the new direction will make it a respectable fighter again.

Oh, and no one in the game is supposed to be 14. I know in DOAX, Ayane was 16 and Kasumi is 17. But they should both be 18 by Dimensions. Unless 3,4, and Dimensions all take place within the same year or some bull shit.
