AX 09: West coast videogame cosplay is hot hot hot! photo

Dale, Tim Sheehy, and I are here at Anime Expo in Los Angeles. Here at America's largest anime convention, with well over 30,000 people attending, there are plenty of opportunities for some amazing cosplay -- and it doesn't hurt to have Ace0fClub5, one of our community members, taking his professional-grade photography (as he has done in the past).

So what we've got here for you is a teaser of some of the cosplay photos that we've got over on Japanator, with plenty more to come over the next three days. Seeing these Street Fighter cosplayers together (they planned it out as a group, naturally) was really impressive -- there's a lot of attention to detail there that really comes out in these photos. Sirs, I applaud you.

It's a little early to tell which cosplay is going to be overplayed at the con, but right now it's looking like Pyramid Head is itching to be the overplayed costume of the year -- although people are still being inventive with the outfit, so who knows. Anyways, enjoy even more photos over on Japanator!

Cosplay is one of those things that when done right, is mind-blowing. When done even slightly wrong, is terrible.

Thankfully these look fantastic. Pyramid Head and Dhalsim are going to haunt my nightmares for many nights to come.

The Gordon Freeman one is the best one IMHO, great attention to detail :) And is a great lookalike.

Pyramid Head is very good as well :)

Dhalsim is amazing in that photo. I'm not sure which is better, the costume, the acting or the phototgraphy.

I think the Gordon Freeman looks a lot like Conrad.

Bez: everything always needs more sexy Yokos. There is nothing that isn't improved by the addition of Yoko.

Haha... I remember when I was one of like.. three of the Pyramid Heads running around in 2006, and then they just started popping up like roaches after the movie :b If Destructoid is going next year, expect to see a Castle Crashers and TF2 group haha.

re Ace
Agreed. Especially if the costume is PRECISELY recreating bra to boobs proportion.

@Freeman
This gun looks like its made with a program that generate paper-cutout form from 3d models. Which would in fact, be a reasonable way to go. Going with more difficult materials with something that can't be taken from real life would mean LOTS of time wasted.

Hang on. I'm confused at the Dhalsim in that picture. Face looks girly, but there are no boobs. What?

just got back from AX and saw enough scary cosplayers to haunt my dreams for months to come. I'm surprised you don't have a picture of the many dudes dressed as Chun Li.... shiver.... fear....

Dhalism was pretty intense in person. BTW, it was a young man

I met that Dhalsim tonight. There's some really good cosplayers here. I got pictures with Prinny, the Power Ranger, Eureka and Anemone, the Trauma Team nurses. . . plenty. . . but sadly, there was one I missed. There's a sexy ass (female) Pyramid Head wandering the show, and I missed her. :(

If only Dhalsim was holding a fire cutout flame near his mouth.
