I bought this game back in August 09, about 3 months after he started development on it, and I have loved every minute of this game. Creative mode, the fluff, is fun, but alpha exceeds it by lightyears. It's simple, but fun.

I just started playing Minecraft on Thursday. As I understand it, it's now Saturday night. I've spent the last three hours adjusting the feng shui of my cliffside hobbit hole. This was after building statues to my greatness, losing all of my iron tools to do a Creeper detonation, getting lost in a cavern trying to find more iron to replenish my stocks and then having to make a bolt hole to escape from skellingtons that inadvertently opened up under the bottom of the ocean.
I feel like I should have paid Notch more for this.

VERY cool game, but admittedly not my cup of tea. Call me lazy or uncreative, but "build your own X" games just don't appeal to me.
I paid 13.36 Dollars for Minecraft. That's one cent short of 1337. minecraft is that awesome ( and the dollar was that weak.)
Although I don't think this game is for me either. Played around for about an hour, eventually tried to build a tower to the clouds but fell to my death in the process. Later on a zombie psycho killed me. Actually, it was all pretty fun.

It has to be the most boring, useless piece of shit ever conceived. As far as i know, all you do is move fucking blocks, seriously it makes no fucking sense to me.
This is the single greatest game I've ever played in my entire life 0_o
Mind you, that may have something to do with me not having any sleep for upwards of 36 hours now. This game just made me feel like I'm on crack.

Wait, I can't seem to craft anything. How do you select different modes? The single player just generates its own world with animals and you can't get lumber from trees or anything that the tutorials say you should.

I've totally just mined myself an underground lake under a mountain! I'm astounded at how amazing this game is!
MrLefty do the trees drop anyting? Normally trees drop wood which you can turn into lumber by pressing "I" and moving the wood to the craft box.

Should maybe mention that if you didn't already have an account, you can't make one now... while the game is free, and while people might want to try it... Yeah.

Just plug in any old username and a blank password and you're good to go. (the password doesn't need to be blank, it's just not needed). He made it "Free" by removing the authentication.
This of course has had the unfortunate incident of making it so anyone can log in as anybody. (People have been logging in as admins in private servers and griefing the fuck out of them)

I've been logging in as Notch on the private server I go on and trolling other regulars.
But yeah, Neveras is right, you don't need a pre-existing account to login right now. Just download the client and put a name in.

you dont actually need to put anything at all in the boxes. I just clicked Login and I was in the game.
Someone burned down the forests near the spawn point on the server I frequent and now the server's down to stop everything else from being destroyed.

I bought this game sometime ago and it keeps being worth the money every week as it expands and i continue to enjoy it :D
Decided to give it a try and see what's the hype all about.
Cant play it - crashes 5 seconds into the game, literally.
Drivers updated, java updated, minecraft taken off the official website. Doesnt work at all.
Display driver is crashing and then java is stuck at 100% cpu usage (both cores). If thats how it goes i dont think its worth anything really. Cannot find any fix yet, even considering the popularity of this apparently "crack on a stick"... help ? Hardware is in order, no faults there...
Also, my netbook runs it... sort of... framerate is appaling...

Alpha is getting better weekly. I mean look at the popularity of this game, and it's in Alpha development right now. This game is going to be one to look out for. (Minecraft MMO?)
Got to say, before now i had no interest in Minecraft. Game's graphics were absolutely horrible, and it looked boring as fuck. But this free to play weekend changed my mind, game is pretty fucking addicting. Downloaded it at around 12 midnight and couldnt stop playing, ended up going to bed at 7 am. When everything comes back ill definitely be getting it.

Are you doing multiplayer or singleplayer?
Multiplayer has some crashing bugs, which I found using fog (F) helps. You can also go into options and change visibility options.
If it's singleplayer, then I really don't know what to do. I've never had that problem before.

i downloaded it last night. I played it for about 30 minutes and was very unimpressed.
Then I looked up a "guide" in the sense that it didn't tell me what to do, but it told me how to open the crafting window.
I installed the game around 7 last night, and I ended up going to bed around 3 am. Damn this game is addicting. I hollowed out the side of a mountain to make my underground mansion. It's always fun to work on adding a new wing to the mansion, when you break through a block and find out there was a zombie-infested cavern in your house.
Then I looked up a "guide" in the sense that it didn't tell me what to do, but it told me how to open the crafting window.

Generally, building shit. If you want to re-create rapture (or just build an underwater city), you can do that. Floating castles? Automatic death traps? Shotguns? all can be made within Minecraft.

I tried Minecraft and tbh, I didn't see what is so great about it. It looks decent for a small title, I'll give it that but there's not much to do besides running around, bashing things and creating stuff.
No offence, I just don't see the appeal in this.

So I need the IP to join a server? Is there a list of them somewhere? Gonna give it a shot multiplayer and see if it's any fun.
I think this is the perfect game for anybody who used to spend hours drawing castles in their math notebooks or laid out huge cityscapes in wooden blocks and brio trains. In one weekend I've managed to create a massive mountain top fortress above the clouds with 7 or 8 sub basements. I'm hooked.
