Avatar premium clothing confirmed: Let's buy pretend hats! photo

We all knew it was coming, and today is has been confirmed that Microsoft will soon be charging for a range of pretend clothes with which to adorn your twee little Avatar. Images of the NXE's summer update reveal a whole new Avatar wardrobe, with prices attached.

As you can see from the above image, a Steampunk jacket will cost you 160 Microsoft Moon Dollars. Frankly, that's 160 Moon Dollars too much to play dress up with something that has absolutely zero use to anybody whatsoever, but there are people out there who will buy it. Lots of people.

How about you? Will you be suckered in by the lure of Steampunk and Halo shirts, or are you holding out for 19th Century ruffs?

Two bucks?! Haha, microtransactions just keep getting better and better. A wise man once said, "Fuck that noise."

Fuck this shit. Who would pay that much for this stuff? Maybe if it was 30msp (wouldn't that be about 25 cents?) I might buy one thing.

30 msp sounds much more reasonable. Or a low 200 -300 for a whole set. AT this price? If I can get a rock band song for this much (and last I checked I can dress up my Rock Band 2 guy much better than the stupid MS avatars), then I'll stick to the song.

They have enough on there right now to classify as steampunk ware. I have my character dressed in Victorian-ish clothing and I like him the way he is.

OMG! What the hell?! paying for avatar clothes now. there is no way in hell I will ever pay for digital clothing. I don't even see the point of paying for themes and gamer pictures, let alone clothing for virtual dolls. And at 160 points for one piece of clothing. Okay, this must be one of the signs of the end of the world along with the horse armor.

There are people that will be vendor lock-in downloadable games that they don't really "own", so someone buying clothes they don't "own" either doesn't shock me.

Wow can Microsoft fuck up micro-transactions anymore? If anyone buys any of this shit, than they're insane. Everyone always talk shit about Nintendo, but at least they don't nick, and dime people to death with micro-transactions. Nintendo created system based avatars, yet Sony/Microsoft have taking that idea, just to fuck over their costumers with it.

I would be pretty stoked if you got themed clothes FOR FREE when you purchase a game. Like say I buy Forza MS 3, and as a little bonus you get some rad Forza shirts or something, or maybe some racing shoes, or a helmet, etc. Now THAT would be an excellent use for the Avatar clothes.

"Where's our "unlockable" clothes they promised us?"

That's the biggest problem with Microsoft, they promise us the world, but they don't even deliver on half of it, and they fuck up the other half completely. Anymore remember Velocity Girl? What happened to that back in E3 2005? We were promised that people could make, and sell things on the Marketplace. Yeah fucking right, its Microsoft doing all the selling, not us.

This is what makes me think that Project Natal is just a pipe-dream as well, and half the stuff that they faked at E3, will never become a reality either. Microsoft is all smoke, and mirrors when it comes to E3. The faster that people realize that, the better off we'll all be!

I kinda wish they were literally 'nickel and diming' us, instead of two dollar-ing us.

With that said, yeah, I'll buy something if I find I like it enough. But I'll be picky.

1. Is there a way of disabling Avatars without deleting the NXE update?
2. What the fuck is the point of the Avatars anyway? 2 games that allow you to play as them?!
3. I will never, ever buy f'ing clothes to dress up a useless, lifeless ragdoll!
4. Someone will surely buy this shit, because with a bit of advertising (Steampunk, buy, buy, buy!) you can sell anything.
This is bull.

It's still coming. MS is gonna have a few previews going out to select Live members and press. Plus the Marketplace and a ton more dashboard features.

It's gonna come when that big update with Last and Facebook comes.

Ah fuck. This is a travesty and is extremely ridiculous, but I'm lured by the goggles. See, the rest of the stuff up there is entirely inconsequential (Earring; nobody gives a damn about them, let alone sees them), already in effectively (Boots, Bowler hat, gloves, pants), or just not worth it (the skirt and red shirt). However, the damned goggles are alluring. Who DOESN'T like Steampunk goggles?

Meh, nevertheless I agree with previous comments. I wish it was literal nickel-and-diming or that was the price of the whole pack. As it stands, that's a total ripoff. I just hope they keep the unlockable clothing.

I think people shouldn't be calling anyone who gets these utterly stupid, though. While I don't support the pricing of this as it stands, I can still see myself getting something from it, ripoff or not. The way I see it, there's going to be a fuckton of ripoff items, and maybe a handful here and there of some bitchin' stuff, like the goggles. Most of the time after buying DLC I have an odd amount of points left, not quite enough for more DLC but more than gamerpics, and to expend them on something other than the trillionth gamer picture pack or just let them rot there for the next DLC purchase that leaves me with even MORE of an odd amount of moon dollars, I may just get one of the aforementioned bitchin' items, as useless as they are. It's sad that Microsoft has such anti-fun rules regarding avatars, or this might actually be cool. Ah well.

....that was much longer that I meant it to be.

The assholes who buy this are the same group of fuckwits that purchase shit for their "homes" on PS3...I am constantly amazed by the countless number of dipshits that I saw dressed like Chun Li and Ryu the 3 times I logged onto HOME. At least those assholes get to move that shit around, not make it do a booty slap during 1 vs 100, or just stand in on a friends list.

Darwin would cry if he could see us now.

That is the cost of one Rock Band song. Compare the two. While I would that it's completely ridiculous, they will sell at least a few, and that's basically free money for them at this point.

ppl wont buy the generic crap. but i think some clever left 4 dead clothing, and the impending modern warefare 2 army attire will sell. And if you can get an avatar masterchief suit prepare for an attack of the clones. I blame LBP because thats essentially the same thing with these ghost busters and solid snake costumes.

Okay... somebody who obviously only supports xbox (i know what assuming makes) actually you'd be surprised how much people on Home DONT buy. especially the cool cribs that you can arrange yourself and then throw parties at.

hmmm. i guess it's so horrible that MS has this great plan to have a clothes market for the virtual avatars and all Sony can come up with is this dumb MMO where you get to meet other PS3 users and go to the community theatre and watch all sorts of dumb things as well as hang out in the mall and watch those completely unnecessary and uninformational videos that show on the wall there. as well as a completely idiotic virtual bowling alley that you can meet new people or play a game with your friends... no way MS would ever do something as stupid as that right?

in all seriousness and all sarcasm set aside; expect 360 Home to be downloadable next spring.

BTW Epic title FTW :)
