Look, it's the Shining Force Feather trailer premiered at Tokyo Game Show
Colette Bennett

Well, it takes more than half of the damn video to get there, but there is actually footage of gameplay and fighting in this trailer from the upcoming Shining Force Feather DS, which our own Jim Sterling seemed to rather enjoy at Tokyo Game Show.

My knowledge of Shining games is unfortunately backwards -- I know the characters thanks to the multitude of figures made of them that we post over at Tomopop, but it wasn't until recently that I finally got my hands on Shining Tears. Considering that the DS is one of my favorite gaming devices, I'm sure that I will be giving this one large amounts of my free time soon enough.

[Thanks, Adam]

Castle Crashers finally getting bug fixes, could "take a few weeks"
Conrad Zimmerman

Castle Crashers finally getting bug fixes, could "take a few weeks" screenshot

A month and a half after release, The Behemoth has posted on their development blog that they've stomped out the last of the bugs which plagued Castle Crashers on release. The problems users had with connecting to each other in games as well as a nasty glitch that caused some players to lose all of the items accumulated in-game will be fixed in an update which they are about to send off to Microsoft for review.

Don't get too excited just yet. The certification process could take a bit of time, up to a few weeks, according to the designers. They also warn that, should there be some sort of problem with their patch that doesn't satisfy MS, Behemoth will have to fix the issue and start the certification process again from the beginning.

Being a person who has experienced the heartache (and blind rage) which follows losing all of their hard-won gear in the game, I'm glad to hear that the issues are being addressed at long last. It's a fantastic game in spite of the issues, but it's been quite some time and I have to wonder how many people have moved past Castle Crashers in light of all the other big titles dropping in our midst.

What say you? Are you looking forward to being able to play with people over Live without all the dropped connections? Is it too late?

Gamecock gets snapped up by SouthPeak Interactive
Colette Bennett

Gamecock gets snapped up by SouthPeak Interactive screenshot

While some of Gamecock's past antics have been fun, it looks like we may not see quite as many events such as E3 funerals in the future. News broke today that Gamecock have been acquired by SouthPeak Interactive. Yeah, Gamecock's Mike Wilson was the same guy you heard going on about how profit and pleasing investors were not the ways to succeed as a games company. Considering SouthPeak is a public company now, I'm not sure how much more of that talk you'll be hearing.

Melanie Mroz, SouthPeak's CEO, commented on the deal:

"Gamecock brings us a solid slate of upcoming titles, including Legendary, Mushroom Men and Velvet Assassin and supports our strategy of working with independent developers .... we are excited to give the Gamecock titles a bigger platform to succeed."

And what did Gamecock's Wilson have to say? Why, the usual pleasantries, of course:

"We are thrilled to be joining forces with SouthPeak to continue to bring great original titles from independent developers to market with a stronger sales and distribution reach ... we have followed each other's progress closely over the last two years, and combining our team with theirs results in a very strong and well-rounded force in the market."

Ah, business. It's so ... genuine.

[Via GamesIndustry.Biz -- Thanks, Joe]

World at War beta impressions: How does it compare to Call of Duty 4?
Grim

World at War beta impressions: How does it compare to Call of Duty 4? screenshot

With Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare holding its own against the likes of multiplayer juggernaut Halo 3 since it was released almost a year ago, the question on everyone's mind is, undoubtedly, "How does Call of Duty: World at War stack up in comparison?"

Like many of you, I had my doubts about World at War from the start, but for good reason. Infinity Ward has proven itself time and time again; no one's arguing that. Treyarch, on the other hand, has developed a reputation, and let's just say it's not a very good one.

[Editor's note: For whatever reason, Grim's preview disappeared from the site at some point in the day. Anyway, here it is again for all to enjoy. Sorry for the inconvenience.]

When I saw the ESRB listing for Marvel vs. Capcom 2, the first thing that popped into my head was that hopefully the Dreamcast version would finally go down in price.

Plenty of more TGS coverage is still coming out, Dale and Nick check out Japanese culture, Samit talks to the lead designer for Blitz II, and plenty more happened on 10/13/08.

Go Capcom, release the game and the soundtrack on Live, as well as the game. I'd so love to see more sales of game music on Live, over a lot of the other stuff we see on there but don't listen too....

Scraps: I can't be objective about World at War (10/13/08)

Scraps

Why not? It's probably because I'm bloody awful at it. I wasn't much good when it came to Call of Duty 4 but this is just depressing. I'm lucky if I can kill half as many times as I get to press the respawn button. If you want an opinion on the beta from somebody who can actually play long enough to have one, you might want to check out Grim's impressions (to be posted tomorrow). I will say one thing, though: Dogs are really cool.

Now for some news that we could not find time to post in the glut of post-TGS coverage that found its way on the site today. Enjoy.

  • Brash entertainment seems to be hemmorging executives these days, as a co-founder and the chief creative officer have now left. Maybe if they had made a better game than Space Chimps or Alvin and the Chipmunks...[GamesIndustry]
  • Sony's Kaz Hirai isn't worried about the games industry hurting in the face of the global economic crisis. Pachter doesn't seem all that concerned either. [Edge]
  • A fairly vague intellectual property bill has made it through Congress and now sits on George W Bush's desk. If signed, it could have some severe consequences for pirates [GamePolitics]
  • Barack Obama is advertising in videogames now, reaching out to the gamer demographic by paying for billboards in Burnout Paradise. [gigoam]

Quantum of Solace launch trailer is sexy like Daniel Craig
Brad Nicholson

Treyarch’s upcoming entry into the James Bond videogame world is coming to a head this November. Unlike some of the drivel that has come out of the Bond pipeline since Goldeneye exploded all over the place, Quantum of Solace appears to be inspired. It’s obvious that it wants to capture Daniel Craig’s portrayal of a more visceral Bond, but more importantly, it may actually be able to stand on its own as a shooter

The entire trailer is full of nothing but action. There are ladies, karate, exploding barrels, train jumping and even a throwback to split-screen multiplayer towards the end. It looks mighty tasty.

If you need a sense of what the game is about, look no further than Nick’s or Anthony's impression pieces. Nick called the gameplay a “mixture of Rainbow Six Vegas and Gears of War on secret agent steroids...” I’m guessing that is a good thing, but I wonder what secret agent steroids taste like.

Are you guys ready for a new Bond title? How hot is Daniel Craig on a scale of 1-10 with one being “hot” and ten being “volcano”?

It looks like a groovy mix of first and third person which could be really cool! @Cacophony: I totally agree. People really need to stop bumming Goldeneye the game. Go back and play it now and ......
