Australia is also banning Second Life photo

Australia's censorship crusade continues! Yesterday, we talked about how the Australian government was about to start censoring the Internet, and today we find out that Second Life is also about to be blocked. I think the country is only one step away from burning people at the stake for crimes of witchcraft.

Minister Stephen Conroy has confirmed that online adult games, including Second Life, will be barred under the ministry's sinister "filtering plan." The censorship will extend beyond mainstream titles and into the realm of flash-based Web games, as well as the previously discussed sites selling physical copies of games of games that exceed the country's MA15+ rating.

Presumably Second Life is being banned because you can choose to do sexy things if you truly want to. I heard you can do that in real life as well, so maybe Australia should just kill everybody in the country. They might as well have a Holocaust to top things off, the way they're going.

Incredibly unnerving stuff, and truly a sad, sad way for a supposedly developed nation to behave. This is the kind of nonsense I'd expect from people who are yet to discover electricity. Australia, the rest of the world is disappointed in you.

Except Germany, who remains strangely impressed.

Censorship sucks, even more retarded censorship. Be it Australia or any other country these kind of laws are pretty stupid and never have a good backup.

Now that they made these things "forbidden" they will gain more curiosity.

Second Life you say? it should be called, Get a Life or Lonely Life, from what I've seen of the people who play this they are usually over weight losers who have little to no life and they all pretend to be the super hot Vixen or Muscly stud in the game while in real life they're sitting at their computer covered in Cheeto crumbs and Yoo-hoo drink.

You guys diss Australians by stereotyping us as backward racists? Do you know what that is? It's xenophobic!

You can not segregate an entire country as holding the same morals and beliefs as those controlling it! 'lol omg u elected them rofl fail' Did we know they would do this? NO! How dare you offend us because we are being shafted! Not only do we have to take this from the government, but other gamers!

To stereotype and make assumptions about an entire country based on the government is ignorant!

'Australia, the rest of the world is disappointed in you.'

Right, because the voters could see what Stephen Conroy would do a year and a half after his party leader came into power and he was appointed Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

I am disappointed in my ministers! I expect the nerds, lolis, and people who make money of the internet and its high ratings.

WELCOME TO THE REAL AUSTRALASIA!

I'm from Germany and I wish I could be outraged about you aligning our country in this... but... well: You're fucking right. And it's a damn shame.

@NihonTiger90: This man speaks the truth!

Really i find it unbelievable how people put up with the crap of their governments like obedient sheep, the one case i have seen of someone doing something or at least trying has been Sweden with the Pirate Party taking 2 seats at the EU parliament but everything else has been really pathetically passive.

Lol @ Australia hate. I've traveled the world, take it from me, Australia has it the best, your country is shit. There could be no videogames here & it would still be paradise. People always say we're the nicest country, best place to travel etc but the secret is we hate your shithole nation & we want you to stay there-- even if it means enduring 100 years of dundee jokes. Eat shit.

Seriously, if they're going to ban a whole heap of shit games I truly don't care. They're not exactly taking my freedom of speech when I can torrent & usenet still. If they take that from me I'll import them from NZ, just like German gamers get their goods from Austria. This isn't exactly the New World Order like Jim & other media outlets make it out to be - it may be the first steps but we're not at Chinese thought censoring yet, so nobody cares & neither should you.

But seriously, how can they be so dumb? We can have porn, but we can't have this? Its just mind-blowingly hypocritical and dumb.

I feel for all you Australlian people I really do, and the rest of us can be glad we do have a document like The Bill of Rights. The freedoms guaranteed in that document we take for granted everyday. What I'll find extremely funny is when this goes into effect and the crimes they are trying to prevent don't decline.

Well I get banning violent stuff in Australia, I mean you wouldn't want to awake the criminal in their blood.

I agree with Thunderheart, etc.

This might be for Second Life, a game I don't even play, but all gamers, even those in Oz should still rally against this decision. Its just like the nazis, first they'll come for stuff you don't play, and you won't care. Next they'll come for FPS games etc, and eventually there'll no one left to defend them.

An avalanche starts with a few drops of snow first. None of us should be so casual about this, regardless of waiting for it to be enforced 'for our own good'. The government is there to serve the people, not the other way around. To those in Australia and Germany, get pro-active and do something about it. Your inactivity, could easily end what you love, if you do nothing.

I feel for those that fight oppression, because they are doing something and being pro-active. What is freedom at all if you discard it so casually, because apparently, the government are always right, aren't they? Just like in Iran, China and North Korea etc?

Wrong, those in government are human too and can be wrong. If you feel strongly enough about games, you should defend them in all forms, not just those you fancy. Problem is I'm yet to hear, about any aussies or bavarians forming some form of challenge against all this bs. I guess they like being the bottom bitch of their country, bend over and lube up. Good luck with that, my ex-prison colony friends

If they tried this shit in the U.K, I'm damn sure I'd get out there, outside Parliament and protest, and do something about it, not matter how small, for it only takes one person to make a change.

So Australian and German gamers, I double dare you......or are you fuckers too chicken to try.....McFly?..lol. Time will tell.
