Aussie Steam version of Borderlands replaced photo

In the recent past, we reported that the Australian Steam version of Borderlands was kinda censored. Aussies who tricked Valve’s digital distribution service into letting them snatch the RPS before its October 30th launch date were greeted with an odd file name that implied their version of the game was somehow altered in a baby-friendly way. Turns out that the non-offensive file added to this specific Steam version did nothing to the game, but that hasn’t stopped 2K from addressing the “extra-file” problem as they promised.

A new statement -- presumably given to AusGamers and written by some sort of representative for either 2K or Gearbox Studios -- confirmed that the Aussie release of Borderlands is not censored. This extra file business has been blamed on “an internal mix-up” which caused “an incorrect version” to be pre-loaded onto Steam.

Those who downloaded the game, and are bothered by the incorrect (but not incorrect?) version of the game will have to re-download the entire game as the the busted version has “been replaced” on Steam.

The full statement is available through the link, but know that it ends on a happy note. “We apologize,” it reads, “for any inconvenience this may have caused.” No problem, guys. We'll live through this unless a midget with a nasty streak bashes our skulls while we're looking at our collective inventory screen.

Yeah, sure no problem. I'll just use another 2GB of my 20GB limit to download the game again....

Begs the question - Why download the entire thing again? Couldn't they just patch the game slightly or something? 2GB is quite a lot, and I know that Aussies have a lot of restrictions on their internet, as Ali D above mentions.

Anyone who ever says they plan on moving to Australia and isn't living in a oppressed nation clearly isn't a gamer.

Seriously does Australia EVER get a break? EVER!?!

I dont think i would classify Australia an an 'oppressed nation' because of a few video game delays and censors.

Australia is an awesome place to live. Would not live anywhere else.

We just get a few little shortcomings when it comes to being a gamer.

@Jon B:

It wouldn't be so bad if the Steam download manager recognised my ISP. It's on the list, but I leave a download running and oops! There goes my bandwidth.

@Sideways Matty:

It's true, but if gaming is your major passion in life then it is a bit of a shitty situation.

I've conteplated emigrating to the land of Oz a lot in the past few years, I have a lot of family there and i really don't like the way my homeland (The UK) is heading.

However as a passionate gamer, it really has put a new slant on my decision reading about all the shit Aus gamers have to put up with.

i probably wouldn't entertain the idea anymore, simply because i love to game and would hate to be so "nannied" when it comes to my favourite passtime.

Sucks because i'd love to live there.

...and just to really piss off all those Australians who preordered through steam and downloaded the "incorrect" version there is this news: Steam launch date for Borderlands is the 30th but the disc version hit the shelves today.

That's what happens to you schmucks for being loyal...

I checked steam today and only had to download an additional bit of data, the preload was down to 98% when I logged on today, so I guess there's also a small patch to those who've already downloaded it?

i couldn't help but think of australian censorship, as i murdered a man to reclaim stolen beer (not IRL obviously). that passes the censors, yet they didn't like the idea of using drugs to heal yourself in fallout 3? what gives?
