Attention Xbox 360 owners: You got a brick, Microsoft has some new answers photo

This new Xbox 360 is just grand. In fact, I'd even go so far as to say it's the bee's knees. But sadly, it seems there are more than a handful of reports out there of gamers' 360's crapping out on them. Because of this, Microsoft has apparently revised their warranty and service policy. Take a look at the new details:

Xbox 360 Warranty and Service Enhancements

1. New Warranty Enhancements, Including Cost-Free Shipping and Return of Original Console
We recently announced that we changed the Xbox 360™ warranty in the United States and Canada from 90 days to one year from the date of purchase.  Now we're adding additional service enhancements, taking Xbox 360 customer service one step further.

Free Shipping:
In the event your console needs to be returned to us for repair your shipping costs are free.  We will immediately send you a postage paid container in which to send us your console, and we will pay for shipping charges to return your console to you.

We are committed to delivering an improved Xbox customer service experience for our Xbox 360 console customers, one that is faster, more efficient and includes shipping free of any charge.  From our customer service representatives to our executive team, the entire Xbox team has made delivering on this commitment a top priority.

You can find the full update after the jump.

New Post-Service Warranty:
If we repair your Xbox 360 within the original warranty period, you will receive either the balance of your original warranty, or 90 days, whichever is longer.  In addition, we will now pay for the shipping both ways.

If we repair your Xbox 360 after the warranty period has expired, while you will be responsible for the repair costs, your repaired console will be returned to you with a new, one year repair warranty.

Return of Original Console
In either an in warranty or out of warranty situation, most customers will now receive their original console back from Microsoft.

2. Faster Service
We are implementing an expedited repair process; upon receipt of the console, Microsoft will repair it and ship it to you within five business days.

3. Enhanced Operations
We're increasing the number of Xbox customer care representatives, enhancing our training processes and further building out our on-site technical support, all so our customers will begin to experience a noticeable improvement in the quality of the service they receive when they contact us.

Xbox will be hiring a customer care champion who will be responsible for ensuring the end-to-end experience for all Xbox customers is first-class, evaluating and implementing new practices and policies to further enhance the Xbox customer experience.  We are also adding more staff at the supervisory level, to ensure we serve you better.

Props to Microsoft for actually doing something that doesn't cost a rediculous amount of money. Any coincidence that this comes after the influx of cash due to good Vista sales...

So when I get my fixed 360 in the mail tomorrow, it will have a new warranty? Sweet.

Couldn't they have saved themselves some time and money by building a 360 that doesn't have issues in the first place?

just one more thing jinxing my red light coming soon

dammit

i'd be happier with an announcement of "hey update tomorrow, fixes 360's" instead it is just a "hey look at us we are finally paying for shipping, just like tons of other companies have done for years"

It seems as if enough people complain, someone listens. Hopefully these poilicies carry over to the NextBox from the begining.

Very neat of MS, but if you sell a console that isn`t exaclty the most reliable one that`s the least thing you could expect from them.

How much does it cost for a repair if the warranty has expired? I can't find an answer to that so easily.

I just sent my 360 to them for repair yesterday. At first the DVD tray wouldn't eject then Red Ring of Doom[tm] came along and bricked it for good. I've been reading boards about sending it in and the general message is: If you are super polite on the phone with customer service and suck their dick (and swallow), you will get it fixed faster.

It has been broken for a while: http://www.360voice.com/tag/brandxx

ghnvt: You're implying that Vista's worth getting...

The adoption rate is mostly early adopters and people that don't know any better.

As someone who had to train employees on Vista, MS? I'm not amused. Put the operating system back into this fancy firewall software.

Akk-It'll cost you around 140 or so to get fixed without the warranty.

Out of the four of my good friends and Mpls neighbors, we've gone through 5 in the last month. All launch systems, all died about the same time. Two of us got really banged up, dirty launch system refurbs back in the mail.

I've heard they've gotten a lot of complaints about that, hence the "you get your own machine back".

Glad they at least fix them for you. If you bug them enough, they'll waive the $140.

Best news ever. Oh, well, apart from if they were to announce that they fixed the damn problem entirely. The 360 is the only half-decent thing MS has going for it, these days. Stop snuggling DRM's winky and then we'll talk, Bill.

What sucks is I had to pay to have mine shipped out last week because they stopped sending a box but now they pay for shipping again. What the fuck man?

Also, why is it good news that Microsoft went back to their original policy? The past couple of months under the "you pay for your own shipping" policy are just forgiven? I can't even get a refund for the shipping I had to pay for only a week ago. Instead I get PGR3, a game I won't even play (or Kameo, another game I won't play).

Apparently, under the new policy you also recieve a free 1 Month Xbox Live Gold card. So for all the people who have already lost time on Xbox Live you won't get shit back (unless you were able to convince them to give it back to you).

I think they should give you another whole year when you get a new 360 in the mail. They "guarantee" that the 360 will work for a year. But if it breaks, and they send you a new one then that one is only guaranteed for 90 days (or the remaining period)? That sounds like bullshit.

Microsoft honestly just needs to have a really good warranty system. It is a fact that the chances of having your 360 brick on you is pretty high. They need to figure out what is causing this, not just continue fixing and hoping it goes away. There must be something major that is causing such a high number of 360s to brick, i had a friend that had 3 crap on him.

But in the meantime M$ should just offer product replacement on all bricked 360s to every customer no matter when they purchased the system.

side note, I wonder if M$ just gets the systems, does the towel trick, and sends them back to the person. That would be the cheapest thing for M$, and it actually works.

I know this is Noob, but if you didn't buy a warranty, like at Best Buy. The Microsoft warranty is full effect as long as you don't do anything that breaks that warrenty right?

I have 2 Xbox's that are not working anymore, and a 360 that doesn't get an online connection. The 360 I traded in at Best Buy withing the 30 days for that one wouldn't run any games, froze, and all that jazz.

As if by magic, after reading this my shit is do the 3 lights fandango.
It's the third replacement of a launch system so I'm thinking my warranty ain't worth cock.
Looks like I'll be making a purchase, damn you Bill Gates you cock smoker, damn you and your self-destructing console.
