Attention baseball fans: Sony ruins season with predictions photo

You know how people like to run Madden games to see who will win the Super Bowl? Well, Sony has gone one step further and decided to send me an e-mail predicting how the entire 2007 MLB season will pan out via their latest game MLB 07 The Show. Check out what the future will be and see if you disagree (there's gotta be some sports fans here, you can't all be nerds, can you?).

KEY STATS
Barry Bonds will not break the homerun record in 2007; coming up two shy
Milwaukee wins Central - 86 wins and 76 losses
Padres win the West - 102 wins vs. 60 loses
Phillies win the East - 88 wins and 74 losses
Mets will take the Wild Card - 87 wins and 75 loses
Angels win the West - 98 wins and 64 losses
Indians win the Central - 85 wins and 77 losses
Yankees win the East - 103 wins and 59 losses
Red Sox take the wild card - 91 wins and 71 losses

More dream crushing after the jump.

I grew up in the DC Metro area, so I was usually an Orioles fan. I tend to just like teams based on where I'm living at the time. I guess I'm a Dodgers and Angels fan now.

@Galagabug

For the Mets to miss the postseason, there would have to be good teams in the NL East. Fortunately for the Mets, the Phillies haven't been good in over a decade, the Marlins dismantle their team everytime they start to get good, and my poor Atlanta Braves managed to choke in 13 out of 14 straight playoff appearances.

Oh shit, I almost forgot this was a gaming blog.

Phillies win the East? Um, well, I guess that's nice. But... a Philadelphia sports team doing something right? I'm skeptical.

*pls don't tell anyone i said this, or my tix are gonna be revoked ;p*

-the phillies are absolutely terrifying this year. they're young and talented just like the mets, only they have legitimate, non-injured pitching. frickin howard is gonna have a huge season.

-the braves. hahahaha. hahahha. i can't say anything nice about the braves, all i can say is that as a mets fan, you never discount the braves.

but yeah the NL east is a joke. reyes/wright FTW!

The Phillies always look promising.

If they make it to the playoffs, they'll be the ones taking the Wild Card, not the Mets.

Brew Crew in the Central and Phillies in the East? Pads win 102?
If the Twins aren't in the Playoffs, there is no way Morneau wins MVP with those numbers.
Grady Sizemore will hit .310, not .350.
Izzy won't save 50.
If Bonds stays healthy, he will pass Aaron. I think he stays healthy, so I say he passes Aaron.

So much wrong with this.

I don't think the Angels stand a chance to win the AL West. Just too many injuries and key players getting a late start. The homer in me thinks that this will finally be the Rangers year.

As an A's fan, I hope you are right about the Angels, SunkiZt.
However, the sports fan in me thinks they will be fine.
Year after year at the preseason, I'm always worried about the other 3 AL West teams, knowing they could all do very well.
This year, not so much sold on the M's. Angels are always tough. Texas has talent, we'll see how the pitching is. I still think the Angels will win the division.

completely useless, injuries happen over the 6+ month season, some players come out of nowhere to have great seasons, some players' production dramatically falls off... and besides, wang winning cy young?? ha! you know there's a flaw somewhere in that system. (and i agree red sox ftw)

I love the Phillies coming on top. They're a hell of a solid team with some really maturing talent. I think Detroit should be up there, as stated above, but overall their predictions aren't bad.
Unfortunately, The Show takes too god damned long to do anything, so I won't be buying it, no matter how good Ryan Howard slugs.

Pssh...if the NL East, NL Central, and AL Central are actually won by teams with less than 90 wins, I’ll eat my hat.

It doesn’t really matter, though...the Yankees’ 103-59 record will surely propel them to postseason success, even if the game doesn’t simulate the playoffs.

--mike, i've got one word for you: matsuzaka. well no probably not, but there are a lot of better pitchers in the AL, santana, halladay, liriano, not to mention the pitching staffs of detroit or chicago. he's not even the best pitcher on the yankees, his numbers are inflated due to the yankees offense, and being able to go up against everyone else's 3rd or 4th best pitcher. he's a good pitcher, don't get me wrong... and at a steal of a price, but cy young? he'll need one break out year to make me a believer.
