Atlus really does love us all, and they're showing it again with another expanded packaging. This time, we'll be scoring the soundtrack to The Dark Spire when the DS title hits retail on April 14th.
The disc comes packed with twenty-four tracks, with both the modern and "retro" versions used in the two different aesthetic styles available for the first-person RPG. If you want to get a taste of the music you'll hear in the game, Atlus has provided a few samples for your enjoyment.
And it wouldn't be an Atlus press release these days without a wickedly funny quote:
"Our census data indicates that given the choice between only a game, and a better-packaged game with a free bonus soundtrack, a significant number of our fans seem to prefer getting free extras," analyzed Aram Jabbari, Manager of Public Relations and Sales. "We don't want to rush to any conclusions here, but it seems possible that people enjoy free bonus things along with their games. Hopefully, we're actually reading the data correctly this time, unlike that study on whether or not our fans enjoyed bonus live scorpions with their games. We really blew it on that one, and we apologize to those affected."
Best. Games. Company. Ever. Now, where are my bonus live scorpions?
[Thanks, Seigfreid!]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I want my soundtrack CD with SMT Devil Survivor too though PLZ?
But seriously Atlus is an amazing company, the care that they put into there games is incredible. And they really care about little details
@Gen Eric Gui: I'm pretty sure I know how a business runs. I'm just saying that Atlus' games aren't exactly known for their record breaking sales numbers, and that these spoil programs are fairly new. If sales didn't pick up then I don't see how they can continue on with giving us this free stuff packaged with games at a regular price.
Atlus tends to make up for its ridiculously niche appeal by knowing precisely who will and will not be buying what they sell, and marketing heavily towards that segment. It helps to explain why, even as recently as the original release of Persona 3, Atlus games were so disgustingly rare at any given point in time.
Their deals with Amazon are also a sign. People sometimes wonder how they can get such low discounts on certain items at that store, it's for the same reason, to cut out excess inventory.
The principle behind pre-order freebies at work, huh? Of course people love free stuff with their purchases! I mean, while I do like the trend that they're putting stuff like a soundtrack CD in with games, they're going to shoot themselves in the foot when we demand that they provide more. =P No complaints here though, since we're winning out either way.
Atlus also tends to do low print runs, a 100,000 sales is like a million for them.
