Atlus site violated, impregnated with Trojan photo

If you visited Atlus' official Web site before the weekend, be warned. It's possible that a filthy trojan virus found its way onto your PC, courtesy of some scumbags who hacked into the niche game publisher's site and embedded a nasty bit of computer rape.

Atlus has warned its fans that if they visited the site between 9:00AM PST and 2:30PM PST on Friday, they could be infected. The site was taken offline to prevent the spread of infection, and naturally Atlus has urged users to run a malware scan immediately.

"The faith and trust of our fans is of the utmost importance to us, a responsibility we don’t take lightly," announced the publisher.

Wow, online vandals just get classier and classier. To target Atlus of all companies is a new low, even among the societal rejects and dirtballs who think this sort of thing is fun. The very least they could have done was hack into Activision or something. Still wouldn't be a good thing, but at least go for the evil publishers.

After seeing this a while back, I immediately decided to load up the site to laugh at it with NoScript in full force.

Yeah, that didn't go quite to plan.

Seems like an odd choice of videogame company to attack.

The Reborn: The best security systems in the world can't stop a determined hacker unless you're the Federal Government.

This was a fucking dick move. I can't imagine the depths of evil a person would have to sink to to pull this kind of shit on Atlus. All they fucking do is good things for the gamer community, and they get hacked. Classy, real classy.

I just don't get the reason why people do it at all. At least soccer hooligans have the excuse of "peer pressure" when they vandalize things.

Then again, maybe someone went "too far" (id est: chose the wrong option) with one of the girls in Persona and they wanted to get Atlus back for making the girls so stingy :o

@ Vrynix

Some people know as White Hackers do it to test the security/system/defence etc. or to make money from it. Black hackers do it for the fun of it and to cause as much havoc as possible. I didn't make those names up they're the real terms before I hear any racism shoutouts.

Shame this happened anyway.

So I thought about who'd have any reason (besides plain malevolence) to do this, because honestly.. what did Atlus ever do?

And really the only plausible thing I came up with is that it could be some religious fundamentalist that got pissed off by the portrayal of his religion or its figures in one of the SMT games.

I've always thought it surprising how little flak Atlus got from religious organizations, despite (for example) having (one of the best-written) portrayals of Lucifer as a likeable character.

@ Reborn: "The are security solutions for a reason. Best practices exist for a reason. You get hacked for a reason."

That's like a rapist saying his victims were asking for it because of the way she was dressed.

Seriously though, this was a dick move. Fucking hackers.

@Reborn

You've obviously never dealt with a hacker that can get around those programs, you don't know what you're talking about so shut the fuck up and let the adults have their conversation.

And yea this suck but I have a hunch that it has nothing to do with Atlus themselves, some sites get hacked all the time.
