Atlus says there will be no enhanced version of Persona 4 photo

Some people would have a problem with buying a game twice, but when Persona 3: FES was released, I had no problem shelling out money for the expansion that included a copy of the original game -- it was $30, and to me that was worth it for the new content I was going to get.

If you're thinking Atlus might do the same with Persona 4, I'm afraid I am going to have to burst your bubble -- Tim Pivnicny, Atlus Vice President of Sales and Marketing, commented on the game's upcoming release today, clarifying that there will be no expansion:

"We are today able to announce that at no point in the future will we announce the release of a "FES" version of Persona 4 ...the very finest, most definitive version of Persona 4 will be the one released on December 9, 2008.”

Good news, as I know some Atlus fans were less than pleased they had to buy FES to get the full story. I guess I'm ok with being consumer raped when it comes to Persona, which doesn't say much good about me ... but at any rate, thanks Atlus!

Atlus Announces That There Will Only Be One (Very Awesome) Version of Persona 4

Unprecedented announcement-of-no-announcement shocks industry

IRVINE, Calif. - November 6, 2008
Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today announced to eager fans awaiting the release of the upcoming RPG epic Persona 4 that there will in fact be no enhanced or expanded version of the game released, as was the case with the game’s predecessor, Persona 3.

"We are today able to announce that at no point in the future will we announce the release of a "FES" version of Persona 4,” said Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “The very finest, most definitive version of Persona 4 will be the one released on December 9, 2008.”
This groundbreaking preemptive anti-announcement puts to rest concerns among many Atlus devotees that an improved version would be announced and released shortly following the release of Persona 4.

Persona 4 will release for PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system on December 9, 2008. Each and every copy of the game will include Side A of the Persona 4 soundtrack for free, which features the work of famed composer Shoji Meguro. Fans who pre-order from select retailers will also receive Persona 4: Visual Data, a 100-page, full-color art book loaded with designs from master artist Shigenori Soejima (at GameStop, Amazon.com, EB Games (Canada), Game Crazy, and other fine retailers, while supplies last).

In addition, hardcore fans can pick up the Persona 4 Social Link Expansion Pack (exclusively at Amazon.com), a bundle of rare North American-exclusive goodies unavailable anywhere else, like the Teddie plushie, 2009 Calendar, Side B disc of the P4 soundtrack, and more!

About Persona 4
Shortly after an urban youth begins a year-long stay in the countryside town of Inaba, the rural town's peace is shattered by a horrific murder that leaves no clues or suspects. As the lone incident develops into a series of bizarre crimes, he discovers that only he and his friends have the power to solve the baffling case, bring those responsible to justice, and restore harmony to his new home.

Key Features
• Balance your double life – Beyond intense battles, Persona fusion, and new weapon creation exists a normal high school life of friends, classes, and part-time jobs. The way you manage and integrate your activities within each day will determine how you progress through the game.
• Unprecedented team control – With a greater emphasis on developing bonds in the fight to solve the mysterious murders, strong friendships are key to your success. Directly control teammates in battle, earn greater party support for combat, and master individual Social Links to unlock your party's true potential.
• Find the true ending – 60+ hours of gameplay thrusts you into a deep mystery where midnight television leads to serial killings. You must investigate murders, rescue those who can be rescued, and unmask the culprit behind it all—or risk being forever shrouded in the fog of doubt.
Persona 4 has been rated "M" for Mature with Alcohol Reference, Animated Blood, Language, Partial Nudity, Sexual Themes, and Violence by the ESRB.

Thank goodness. It might seem like a bummer to some that P4 is largely similar to P3, but given that FES was more or less an ironing out of P3's various flaws, P4 should reflect a mastery of that style, making a "FES" version unnecessary.

I don't know why you would be expecting one and why Atlus USA would release one when they haven't done so in Japan. Anyway, always nice to wake up to some Persona on the front page :P

Good, I didn't pickup FES because I had just bought Persona 3 right before FES was announced

Persona 4? Gimme gimme!

I heard the buzz when FES was released and I went ahead and picked it up. So glad I did, as that game single-handedly restored my love for JRPGs.

Personally, I wouldn't care if they were planning a FES version of P4. It would be a guaranteed purchase either way.

King3vbo: Just so you know, when FES came out in Japan it was about $30 and all it included was Episode Aigis, or "The Answer" as it's renamed in the US release. You had to already have P3 and I'm not sure how an "expansion" disk worked on a PS2. I know you had the option of playing P3 in director's cut mode, and the standalone episode. They also released a later combo pack which integrated the data for $$ more--and THAT is what the US got as P3:FES. So really, even if you have P3 already, FES is still probably worth 30 bucks because you get an entire second hard mode dungeon.

Sweet. I can't wait. I've been a a Megaten fan since Persona 2 back on PS1, and I've loved the crap out of Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga. Gonna pick this up day one (hopefully I'll have finished P3 by then).

And it doesn't get much better. Nothing but a dungeon crawl, but at least the last bosses video is cool looking. But hey, Persona 4 soon.

Good. I only have to hear Atlus morons orgasm over this special brand of bullshit once instead of twice.

just like Konami and MGS, I'll believe it when I see it. Can't wait for MGS4: Substantationaltastic to come out around the same time as Persona 4: fez. this time with moar hats.
