Atlus Online announce Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent photo

Excited? You bet your ass I am. After all that speculation over Atlus Online and what types of games they would offer, now we finally have an answer in the form of their first title, Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent.

The game is a free-to-play MMORPG that drops players into a chaotic world where nations fight over a resource called Neo Steam. As you can see, the style of the game is distinctly steampunk-inspired, and you can choose to join one of the two nations (Elerd or Rogwell) along with what class you will play.

The website for the game launches today, which also offers interested gamers a chance to sign up for the beta. I tend not to get into MMOs as they eat up way to much of my time, but I have to at least check this one out when it hits. Does it look relevant to your interests?

Atlus Online Goes “Steampunk” with First Title, Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent

IRVINE, Calif. – Feb. 23, 2009 – Atlus Online, a daily destination for community-focused gaming and interactive entertainment, today announced Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent as the first game to kickoff its portal. Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent is the only massively multi-player online role-playing game (MMORPG) of its kind, set in the uniquely creative genre of “steampunk,” where 19th century steam-based technology meets fantasy inventions.

“With an engaging, steampunk-inspired storyline and aesthetic, Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent is a fresh take on the standard ‘fantasy’ MMO game genre,” said Shinichi Suzuki, president and CEO, Atlus. “Atlus Online is excited to bring this popular game in its new incarnation to a wide range of players around the world. Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent is a great first entertainment experience to lay the foundation of the unparalleled content and unmatched social interaction planned for the Atlus Online portal.”

Developed by JoyImpact and licensed by HanbitSoft, Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent will be given the same style and caliber of localization that Atlus has been known for over the years.  This fresh version of the game will be published by Atlus Online for players in North America, South America, and anywhere else in the world, except Europe.  In addition to the thorough localization, Atlus Online’s Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent will feature an engaging story influenced by the distinctive steampunk genre.

Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent transports players to a world where two nations battle over a precious resource called Neo Steam. From the onset, customization is key to each player’s experience, where they can choose which nation to join and select from a number of specialized classes. As players battle to expand their nation’s resources and protect their borders from invasion, they must learn to harness the Neo Steam technology to upgrade their equipment, learn new abilities, and progress in their chosen class. Each player in Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent also begins with the aid of a pet of their choosing. Pets act as guides as players travel the world, and they even assist in battle with various abilities, such as healing or thievery. A pet’s ability list and appearance can be customized to suit the player’s preferences. Adding to the immersive aspect of the steampunk fantasy world, the game also features various forms of steam-based machines and vehicles for faster in-game traveling.

More information about Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent’s beta and launch dates will be released by Atlus Online in the near future.  Gamers and Atlus fans eager to join the Atlus Online community and be among the first to receive more information on the game can visit the only official website for Atlus Online’s Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent, http://neosteam.atlusonline.com.

Rogwell... sounds so English for some reason... I'm naming my character something like Guildenberg or whatever, if I do try this out that it.

I won't go anywhere near this, as I genuinely dislike MMOs, but he art is gorgeous. I nearly lost it when I saw the official website.

Kan: I'd agree, if Atlus products were continuously good, and worthy of such obsession :)

That being said, I'll probably sign up for the beta. If not, it's free, so why the fuck not try it out?

Well, F2P MMOs suck 99% of the time, but since this is Atlus and the art looks awesome I shall try it.

Let's hope the revamp, the translation, gameplay, and customer service, because the previous iteration that gamenetworks maintained was nothing to be excited about :-P

I'd love for Collette to sit around the Lionhead or Acquire sites and give me wonderful news from them ... but there just isn't any news there :D

Atlus is nothing if not pro-freaking-lific.

I waste enough time away these days with Persona 3 and Team Fortress 2, how am I going to have time in my schedule to fit an MMO in now?

Oh well, as a Fatlus, it's my duty to make that time. I'm looking forward to this :D
