Atlus might stick a Norse spear in gamers' ears photo

[As posted on Japanator]

Of course, that's hardly a bad thing, since in Japan picking someone's ears (with consent) is considered a sign of intimacy. The ear-cleaning spear in this case is shaped more like a trademark, one filed by Atlus for "Gungnir" which is also the name of the Norse god Odin's favorite pointy people-killing device.

Odin's a common feature of Atlus games, making appearances in the demon/persona roster of nearly every Megami Tensei release, shown as above in his naked, purple-skinned, Piccolo-esque glory. Siliconera wondered if the name might have any connection to Odin Sphere, another Norse-themed game, but that was developed by Vanillaware, who've licensed their work out to other publishers besides Atlus. Plus, in that game, Odin fought with car-sized fists.

What could it be? A new IP? A pachinko machine? An Atlus-published sequel to Viking: Battle for Asgard? What do you think will be tipping the trademark?

I REALLY hope it's an Odin Sphere Sequel on 360 or PS3. That was one of the best games as far as presentation goes ever. The hand drawn graphics and the awesome story were some of the best on PS2. I fucking loved that game.

@able_to_think: An Odin Sphere PSP game sounds really nice.

I think chances of Odin Sphere 2, or the like, are pretty low, and frankly I don't want one. I think that game was a masterpiece and doesn't need a revisit.
Personally, I'm hoping for a more old-school grid combat game. Something along the lines of Brigandine...

Yeah, Odin Sphere 2 wouldn't make much sense story-wise. I'd love another game in that style, though.

I don't want a remake, either; those graphics are effectively timeless for me.

I want an HD remake actually. The game looked great back when I played it on my SDTV, but now that I have an HDTV sadly the graphics don't come out as well anymore. Actually it doesn't even have to be HD, Muramasa only displayed at 480p and looked fine.

It would be cool with a game that is truly based on Norse mythology, rather than these parodies provided by eastern and western developers.

Just because the concept art is similar to that of Twilight Princess, doesnt mean that the

game itself has to look the same. If you play TP again, you'll notice that Link doesn't

look entirily the same as in the concept art. In the art he looks pretty tough, while in

the game he looks kinda goofy.
