Atlus announces an Amazon-exclusive rerelease of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment photo
     Atlus

Despite the fact that Square-Enix has been my favorite publisher for a very long time, I am seriously starting to believe that Atlus is about to usurp them, if only for the incredible regard they show fo rtheir fans. Case in point: members of the Atlus Faithful email list (which I am a proud part of) just got an email announcing the reissue of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment for the PS1, along with a bonus CD, for $39.99.

All I can say is ... kickass! Head to Amazon and grab yours now if you've been waiting for a chance to own this early entry in the Persona series (Canadian customers can go to Amazon.ca for the same deal). The game ships November 19th, so if you're quick you can blast through it before Persona 4 comes out in December. All Shin Megami Tensei, all the time!

A great move Atlus, we love you for it. What you really need to be doing is spread this love onto PSP.

A compilation of SNES SMT, Persona 1 and 2 (ALL UNCUT) on PSP would be a great way to celebrate the series and give fans the full series.

DS is getting a sweet SMT game in 09, but the PSP badly needs a dose of SMT.

@darkair "why not just sell it in stores."

They seem to have a deal going with Amazon. They released the Persona 4 Social Link swag pack on Amazon, too.

I'm thinking it's because Atlus' strength is in its niche market, and Amazon/online retailers are the best way to take advantage of their limited production runs. Everyone who orders P4 via Amazon is guaranteed to get it, but a random copy sitting on a shelf in an out-of-the-way GameStop may never be sold.

I'd buy this in a heartbeat, but I already own it. I assume the bonus CD is the same bonus CD that came with the game when it originally came out (short interview with Kaneko and some other guy).

DAMN YOU ATLUS! PRINT MORE THAN 5 COPIES OF YOUR FUCKING GAMES FOR ALL THE HOLY DEITIES SAKES! I missed P3 and P3 FES, simply because I couldn't find a bloody copy in stores, then P2 is availible online and it's sold out already! FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!!!!

I really want to get into this series of JRPG's, but it's kind of hard when I can't get my hands on any of the games! oh well, at least I have P4 pre-ordered already.

Atlus is very close to becoming my personal favorite over S-E for the very same reason you mentioned Colette. I was lucky enough to check the email right when I got off work and get it ordered before they were gone. I heard they had between 500-600 and the early orders shipped today and the rest will ship the 19th.

@grafkhun

Easy to say, not so easy to monetize. Much as we love them, Atlus is a niche publisher. They can't afford to have the kinds of product overruns that most other publishers work with.

That's why they're making all these deals with Amazon. Amazon makes sure that the maximum amount of the supply can get to the demand, rather than sending X amount of copies to each store and hoping they get picked up.

*puts on games-are-art asshole hat*

Anyone who still prefers S-E over Atlus has no eye for quality.

*takes off games-are-art asshole hat*

I'm so glad I got my copy of this wayyy back when they reprinted it the first time. None of this hassle, all of the quality.

And yeah, Atlus has a deal going with Amazon. Atlus made Amazon their official online store after the one they had been running on their website turned out to be not profitable enough. That's why Amazon gets so many deals these days, like the special Izuna 2 posters and the P4 expansion pack that unangbangkay mentioned

NISA did the same thing with Makai Kingdom and Disgaea 2 a couple days ago. But I think that was preorders not actually available now copies like this. I'm glad I have this (though I need the money now so I'm probably gonna toss it on eBay).

No doubt one person bought at least 50 of them in order to turn around and sell them on ebay for 200% profit. Hell if I had seen this earlier I may of done the same thing.

Man, I have to agree with you Colette... Square is my favorite, but Atlus is working it's was up real fast. I'm part of their mailing list as well and the dedication that they show to their fans as well as just the whole philosophy of being company that translates weird Japanese games is amazing.

Since they are a small niche company, why not move to digital distribution?

I am sure they could get this up and running and sold on PSN for PS3/PSP support. I would snap it up in an instant.

That's...Amazingly cool of them, except $40 is kinda high. I sold my copy on Ebay a few years ago, think I must have made $50 back then for it so I guess it's a good deal....so long as it's the original box, not some lame greatest hits box with the bright green stripe.

This game was awesome, great graphics for the ps1 and really dark...kinds freaked me out a little ha ha. Did the original come with a bonus disc? I thought I remember there being one in mine...correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember watching some extra AMVs, unless they were on one of the game discs.

I'm glad I still have my original copy of persona 2. And persona 1. And Digital devil saga 1 and 2. And SMT: Nocturne. And Persona 3 and P3:FES. And SMT: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha Vs. The soulless army.

Take heart folks. If you missed out because Atlus are sold out, I'm sure they'll be taking notice of this fact. Perhaps then more copies will be printed off, perhaps upon request. I still prefer the idea of them either getting Persona 1 and 2, onto Live, PSN or better yet PSP.

Hope you are listening Atlus, because I really favour you guys over SE, who've lost their heads these days. I'd happily support more good Atlus product.
