Atari details the pre-order bonuses for Star Trek Online photo

Like with Champions Online, Cryptic Studios and Atari are offering a nerdton of unique pre-order incentives for those planning to plunge into the retail version of MMO Star Trek Online semi-blind. The catch for these people is now to find a retailer -- either corporeal or digital -- that has the treats desired.

But before diving into the retailer-specific list bonus goodies, it should be noted that all pre-orderers are to receive two things: access to the STO Open Beta and access to the Early Start program.

The Open Beta is slated to kick off on January 12th and run through January 26th. All things earned in this will be wiped from the servers before the game’s release, but things acquired in the Early Start weekend before launch will be retained. Nice, right?

Now hit the fold for the big list. Star Trek Online launches in North America on February 2, 2010.

GameStop

GameStop customers receive the ability to command the exclusive and always classic USS Enterprise from Star Trek The Original Series.

Best Buy

Best Buy is offering their customers a fun in-game pet. As a Federation Captain, players own a famed Tribble of Star Trek lore that will accompany them on their travels into the final frontier.  As a Klingon commander, players control the boar-like Targ, a beast found on the Klingon home world of Qo’noS.

Amazon

Amazon is offering an exclusive “Liberated Borg” Bridge Officer. This bridge officer, who comes with unique nanotechnology augmentations, assists in missions and gains experience as the player does.

Wal-Mart

With the Wal-Mart Bonus Skill Points package, receive addition skill points that enable players to improve their characters quickly.

Target

Target customers who pre-order Star Trek Online receive a unique ground weapon -- a TR-116. This rare projectile weapon is used in dampening fields and other challenging environments; it is also modified with a micro-transporter which beams the fired projectiles to targets at close range so that a user can fire without a direct line of site.

Direct2Drive

Direct2Drive customers receive an exclusive Multi-Spatial Personal Shield. This advanced personal shield system is based on Borg technology, which constantly regenerates itself and the health of its wearer.

STEAM

STEAM is offering customers Chromodynamic Armor. This armor is based on technology brought back from the Delta Quadrant by U.S.S. Voyager improves the damage and critical hits of energy weapons.

So I guess the 360 version's been quietly disavowed? That utterly sucks if that's the case.

hmm never knew there was a 360 version in the works.

@Tubatic

If you go with PC you can still play on your couch and will spend less $$ over the lifespan of the console.

SO ridiculous. No matter where you go you miss out on stuff. I hate this trend.

well with sony's software development policy its hard to make stuff cross console platform.

I guess PC gamers have mostly accepted losing titles. We started PC to get the OTHER stuff that console didn't offer. As a 360 user I would accept that RTS MMOS's and a lot of the Japanese stuff just won't make it over, and that's okay its just a limitation of the system.

I meant the preorder deals... haha.

But yeah, despite being only a PC gamer I think every game should be on as many platforms as possible. I hate that I miss out on some games because I refuse to use a console. The Darkness springs to mind immediately because I love Starbreeze's Riddick games.

I think MS and Sony's policies on MMOs is what is keeping them PC-only.

sony uses a rough coding system that makes it costly for developers to move games from sony to xbox. they did this on purpose b/c they assumed market supremacy but their high cost and delay to market cost them.

not it seems the only things that are only ps3 are VERY japanese games. But it seems that most things with any value make it to PC. I would say PC looses the least.

I don't plan to play a paid MMO, but knowing I'd have to choose between a Tribble or a transporter gun makes me sad.

@ Locke

I agree PC loses the least, a quick PC port is better than nothing and easy to do. Still, those few games I miss out on annoy me.

Now Microsoft seems to be stopping their typical "port it to PC a year later" thing as well, still no Fable 2, Halo 3 or Gears of War 2 on the horizon.

@ Stinging

Yeah, I'm surprised b/c its easy money for them. Maybe they are trying to get the PC crowd to join the console people so they can make more $$ from xbox live and the more expensive games. Its a shame console gaming is so expensive. Just makes so much more sense to go PC now.

WOnder if you can pre-order the game at a number of retailers and get all the items, only buying one copy?
I.E. buy the little $5 pre-order box from say walmart and target, maybe even gamestop, and buy the game on STEAM, then use all 4 codes for 4 items. Gotta try that.

Hol-ee shit, these pre-order bonuses are amazing. It's actually kind of irritating that I have to pick one.
