Atari announces Test Drive Unlimited 2 for fall release photo

Atari has finally announced Test Drive Unlimited 2, the long-rumored sequel to Eden Games' 2006 open world racer.

Despite Atari and Eden saying the game is a step forward, everything they're currently telling us about it sounds an awful lot like the original. That means a persistent online playing environment that blends both the single-player and multiplayer experiences. The sequel will also bring vehicle damage, weather effects, and day and night cycles.

Also fresh will be "a brand new island" to explore, but what's unclear is if said island will be Hawaiian -- the first game had players racing around O'ahu. Perhaps eagle-eyed readers might be able to spot landmarks or something in the three images released today.

The game's scheduled for a fall release for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows. Was anyone still waiting for this sequel?

Will the physics feel as if I'm driving a bowling ball again?

I would give anything for the cars to feel like they do in Forza.

Who actually buys games in the Test Drive series? It hasn't been relevant since... well, I don't think it ever has been relevant. And I used to own Test Drive 4 and Offroad!

One of the most boring driving games I've ever played.

TD Unlimited was really fun in a realistic (well, sort of) Burnout Paradise kind of way. Loved going off-road in rear wheel drive super cars and bombing down a tree strewn mountain at 90mph. Plus it was one of the first games I can recall having a properly detailed in-car view. The single player and online functions needed work, but that's why we have sequels. I'm all up for this.

I loved TDU. I can't wait for this one. I just hope that they either make bikes not suck or simply remove them from the game entirely.

i strangely enjoyed the first one
i say strangely, because i used to drive round quite happily following road rules.

...i'm not cool.

i wasn't quite sad enough to do as others tho...and organise meets online and go driving round the island in a convoy of specific cars.

or maybe i just didn't have any friends. hmm.

either way...i'll be checking this out for sure, the first one was a great game, but definitely lacking in certain areas.

lol, I met up with mates and did convoys, even did it with strangers (oh-er)
I'm still playing it in fact, my little girl likes playing it with the steering wheel.

I'm actually excited for this. One of the most intense races I've ever done in a game was the hour long race around the island.

Oh my goodness! Yes, I love TDU, my favorite game of this gen or even my gaming career. Can't remember how much I paid for it but I'm definitely buying this day one and I rarely buy games day one. Now all I need is a psp version.

Yes, that was one of the best things about that game. Eventually you'd mess up but I still had fun with that race. I also like that they told you how long the races would so you could prepare mentally.

First game that was actually fun to just drive around and do nothing. Definitely buying part 2.

I remember the first time I did that, I fell short by like 40 seconds. So frustrating. >_>

Anyone know where to buy a new copy of TDU 1 on PC, online? Not having much luck with my usual sites/ebay/steam.

Thanks

@Evergreen - why do you have to join the throng of arseholes who always throw in a "who cares?" type comment? The irony in you comment is clearly lost on you!
