Atari continues its push into the digital download space next year with Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale, which the publisher announced today for Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network, and PC.
Daggerdale will be an action role-playing game experience, featuring both single-player and cooperative gameplay for up to four players. Based on the trailer, the game looks to pack a fair amount of real time action of the hack-and-slash variety. And skeletons… lots of them.
Story wise, for you D&D fans, know that you'll be teaming up to destroy the nasty Rezlus and his vile Zhentarim. I don't know what any of that is, but places called Nentir Vale, Mines of Tethyamar, and the Tower of the Void are also involved.
WHAT? this is stupid lame, childish d&d rules derp d20. graphics look like n64. i mean look at all those skeletons, couldnt they think of something better, the skeletons dont even have 103 bones. and i mean its been done so many times already. and dont even get me started on the hit detection.
D&D DaggerDerp: there is a bazillion skeleton/ogre/orcs/goblins/demons led by a corrupt/resurrected wizard/warrior/demon spawn/demi-god. The only way to stop him/her/it from destroying the world/universe/planes of existence is to make a Legolas/Drizzt/Link clone and adventure into various dungeons/planes to collect the 8 pieces of a magic stone/magic book/magic sword/magic whatever and loot the dead to get better stuff to kill bigger skeleton/ogre/orcs/goblins/demons in the next temple/dungeon/plane of existence. Once you collect all the pieces of whatever, you face off with meanie boss guy and eventually become a legend/demi-god/hero of time.
There's also going to be a dragon in there somewhere.
So this is what D&D has been distilled to, generic hack n slash fighting hordes of unimaginative monsters in a series of nondescript hallways. Why D&D though? Atari owns Gauntlet why couldn't they just make a 'smarter' Gauntlet rather than a dumber D&D game?
I'm not even that much of a fan of D&D but it just gets to me when something smart has to be redone for mass appeal.
the company that once published the Baldur's gate series is releasing a hack and slash, light on story game with the glorious pornstar name of 'Daggerdale'. Why do i feel a little sad?
Ever read 4th Ed? They were basically moving towards mimic-ing a video game anyways, so I hope they just move in this direction full time. DnD as a pen and paper game is basically just a combat sim anyways

Also, I support Draxxliith's request for couch co-op.
