Astro introduces the Astro A30 cross-gaming headset photo

Hey, here's something we don't do enough on Destructoid! We talk about videogames all day long, but we don't cover the accessory side all that much. We're trying to change that though, if you haven't noticed.

Anyway, Astro Gaming has just introduced their newest product called the Astro A30 Cross-Gaming Headset. The headset features a dual mic system with removable boom mic, noise-reducing closed backs and interchangeable speaker tags. Best of all, the A30 works on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, DS, PSP, iPhone and Blackberry.

The headset by itself costs $149.95 or you can one with the MixAmp for $229.95. It's a little on the pricey side, but you can't go wrong with these types of headsets. I've messed with a Turtle Beach headset before while playing Modern Warfare 2 and it nearly blew my mind. The Turtle Beach ones are nice, but they're big and bulky. This new Astro one looks to offer great quality all while being sleek and sexy.

What do you all think of these A30 headsets?

Wait, is this why, when I click on the Destructoid logo at the top, I'm taken to the Astrogaming website and not Destructoid?

Or is this only happening to me?

It's just you. :/ I wish I could afford a super nice headset like this. :( Also the square design looks wierd to me anyway. :/

Keep up the hardware stuff. If Dtoid ever made a gadget site spinoff alongside Tomopop and Japanator, I would bookmark it and visit daily. Just sayin'.

@zombiekiller13,
don't worry, me too. And when I click on the "return to article" link on the "comment has been posted" page.

Interesting Headset. I've never heard of Astro before so I'll check those folks out.

Okay. I feel better now. Thought maybe something got thrown onto my laptop, but only the links on this site have been affected.

That out of the way...headset looks cool, but a little too pricey for me.

Smells like advertising. On the more serious side, my headphones have an optical in. I care about that more than DS/PSP/iPhone/Blackberry connectivity. These are not headphones for the road. Thats why I don't care about it. Not only that, I wear glasses. I have had some headphones that will murder your outer ear if you have glasses on.

What I'm trying to say is that, choosing headphones is like choosing a serious girlfriend. Looks are nice, but you need to see their medical records first. (The Office reference)

Never tried turtle beach (always heard bad things about them esp their wireless sets) I want to give Astros esp with the mixamp a try, but last year at PAX i bought a set of Tritton AX 720 (130.00) which ive loved ever since.

Not that this headset looks awesome (although it's way out of my price range), but we all know why this article got posted (look at the sidebar ads).

Now, I'm all for Destructoid making money to keep the site running, give a good (or at least living) wage to the staff, add new features, etc. But perhaps you should put some kind of official disclosure that this article was written because of the sponsorship.

That being said, as long as the product is good, and you're getting decent money to do it, I'm fine with the occasional "advertorial". Though, I'd be more wary if there's advertising for a blockbuster game right before a review comes out (remember Gerstmanngate!).

I would like these pricey headphones a lot more if they haden't raped my favourite website.

I too get redirected to the Astro website with pretty much anything I click on on the toid.

Booo

Isn't it enough to have the side bars blasting the same information at us for the last couple of days, now your hawking some crappy wired headphones....

What Sexy said. After what Astro has done to the site they can suck my balls.

On the other hand I recognize DToid is in a fiscal crunch. Oh well. *sigh*

At least the mobile version is still pure. That's more than I can say for a few other mobile blogs.

companies dont run on candy and pixie dust. people have to get paid somehow and if it's through advertising then so be it. advertisements dont force you to buy anything

Why Destructoid, why? Why introduce advertising into parts of the site that should be reserved exclusively for content that people actually WANT to read (news, comment, etc, etc). This is basically the same as product placement, and you guys don't even make it clear that it's an advert, you try to dress it up as a preview piece!

So, to answer your question, what do I think of these A30 headsets? I think that I'll never by anything made by Astro ever again because they are ruining one of my favourite sites, and if there are any more shill pieces posted I think I'll stop coming to Dtoid altogether.

Everyone's gotta pay the bills, but surely you guys don't need to go down this path where the advertising blends into the good stuff to such a gross extent? C'mon!

ok I just posted that comment and hit the "back to post" button and it took me to the Astro website. that's seriously effing aggravating. can't you just cover the site in Astro stuff? do we really have to be constantly redirected to their website?

I'm boycotting til this goes away. (empty threat- goes to read another article and is redirected to Astro website).

Yeah, this is bullshit. The reason why I visit Dtoid is because most other sites whore themselves to advertisers so badly, and until now Dtoid hasn't really done that, but this new stuff is ridiculous. C'mon Dtoid!!!

My browser window is typically re-sized, and I have my feedbar open on the left. Anything off to the side of the site gets cut off...so I completely missed the ads on either side until today.

DToid links work for me too. Also, I have the A40 Headset and they are AMAZING. They're just a tad large so I'm a bit envious of these smaller, cooler looking ones.

It's one thing having ads on your site, we all gotta get paid, right, but to have the "usually goes to Home" logo link hijacked is a step too far.

I hadn't even noticed the bars at the side, I read on a little browser in the corner of my work screen.

You guys still get paid for that right? It can't tell what's displayed and what's not due to the size of the window right? Cuz I want you guys to get paid, I just don't want to be redirected when I click on stuff that should go somewhere.

as far as price goes i dont think 149. is to bad for the headphones alone, like i stated earlier i paid 130 for the tritton ax 720's. but if you are gonna buy astros def go all-the-way and get the mixamp for the simple fact that you can hook shit up like ipods and listen to them in game. plus the mixamp is heavily discounted if you purchase it as a package deal.

If you demo'd or tested the accessories out and get your review on them it would be nice. This just seems to be some marketing ploy.

By saying, "This new Astro one [b]looks[/] to offer great quality all while being sleek and sexy." We can see that nobody even tested these out, or at least you are not letting us know you tried them.

If that's happening, then that's a different matter and that sucks, but it's not happening to me at all. Seems some are having that problem and some aren't, so I'm guessing it's not something Dtoid is doing on purpose. I wonder if it's a brower-related problem.

If that's the case, it's still possibly something Dtoid screwed up somehow but I seriously doubt there's any malicious intent here or we'd all be experiencing the redirection problem.

For reference, I'm using Firefox (with Adblock Plus, if it matters) and I'm not being redirected.

A welcome new feature, but not if you're going to skimp on the details! Is this a 5.1 headset? That's very literally the dealbreaker for most shoppers. Just constructive criticism, keep it up Hamza.

Gah...sorry for derailing the post. I at first thought there was a bit of shadiness going on, what with this "announcement" and the fact that I can't seem to navigate the site without being redirected. But it seems like there is no backdoor shenanigans, at least with the redirects...just a simple case of mis-coding the ad's links, or something along those lines.

Uh...carry on?

I have the A40 with the mixamp, and it is fantastic. I particularly like it because I've always had trouble hearing people when I chat, but with the mixamp you can make them really loud, and hear them in both ears. When I saw Astro had a new product, I was kinda pissed cause I just bought my A40, but I think that the A40 is better than the A30, because I don't really see a need to have a chat capable headset on the go.

Destructoid,

I have no problem with sponsored posts but not when they're not labeled as such.

In the future, please label them. Just add a #sponsored tag right now—perhaps with a different color than regular tags, so it stands out—and you can be assured most people will be cool with it.

Thanks. :]
