Hey, here's something we don't do enough on Destructoid! We talk about videogames all day long, but we don't cover the accessory side all that much. We're trying to change that though, if you haven't noticed.
Anyway, Astro Gaming has just introduced their newest product called the Astro A30 Cross-Gaming Headset. The headset features a dual mic system with removable boom mic, noise-reducing closed backs and interchangeable speaker tags. Best of all, the A30 works on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, DS, PSP, iPhone and Blackberry.
The headset by itself costs $149.95 or you can one with the MixAmp for $229.95. It's a little on the pricey side, but you can't go wrong with these types of headsets. I've messed with a Turtle Beach headset before while playing Modern Warfare 2 and it nearly blew my mind. The Turtle Beach ones are nice, but they're big and bulky. This new Astro one looks to offer great quality all while being sleek and sexy.
What do you all think of these A30 headsets?
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Or is this only happening to me?
@zombiekiller13,
don't worry, me too. And when I click on the "return to article" link on the "comment has been posted" page.
yup, I've been giving astro extra hits for the past two weeks :)
I'm getting it with nearly every link on the site, it's not just you.
Me too. I ended up getting redirected every time I clicked something on the site.
That out of the way...headset looks cool, but a little too pricey for me.
What I'm trying to say is that, choosing headphones is like choosing a serious girlfriend. Looks are nice, but you need to see their medical records first. (The Office reference)
Now, I'm all for Destructoid making money to keep the site running, give a good (or at least living) wage to the staff, add new features, etc. But perhaps you should put some kind of official disclosure that this article was written because of the sponsorship.
That being said, as long as the product is good, and you're getting decent money to do it, I'm fine with the occasional "advertorial". Though, I'd be more wary if there's advertising for a blockbuster game right before a review comes out (remember Gerstmanngate!).
I too get redirected to the Astro website with pretty much anything I click on on the toid.
Booo
Isn't it enough to have the side bars blasting the same information at us for the last couple of days, now your hawking some crappy wired headphones....
On the other hand I recognize DToid is in a fiscal crunch. Oh well. *sigh*
At least the mobile version is still pure. That's more than I can say for a few other mobile blogs.

JazzPanda figured it out. It's screwy on smaller screens, like laptops.
:(
So, to answer your question, what do I think of these A30 headsets? I think that I'll never by anything made by Astro ever again because they are ruining one of my favourite sites, and if there are any more shill pieces posted I think I'll stop coming to Dtoid altogether.
Everyone's gotta pay the bills, but surely you guys don't need to go down this path where the advertising blends into the good stuff to such a gross extent? C'mon!
no it's been driving me street rat crazy. I've just been hitting the destructoid link from my bookmarks to go back to the main page to avoid seeing the ASTRO MGS4 EDITION SHITBOX TH1NG thirty times a day.
I'm boycotting til this goes away. (empty threat- goes to read another article and is redirected to Astro website).
What the fuck is happening with the rest of you guys?
Headphoens Related: Those look baller, but also are really expensive.
<_<
>_>
seriously though people just need to quit bitching. and unlike some of yall claim i havent been redirected at all to astros site. besides if that happens o fucking well. it's not like the entire community of dtoid has changed because of this.
I hadn't even noticed the bars at the side, I read on a little browser in the corner of my work screen.
You guys still get paid for that right? It can't tell what's displayed and what's not due to the size of the window right? Cuz I want you guys to get paid, I just don't want to be redirected when I click on stuff that should go somewhere.
By saying, "This new Astro one [b]looks[/] to offer great quality all while being sleek and sexy." We can see that nobody even tested these out, or at least you are not letting us know you tried them.
If that's happening, then that's a different matter and that sucks, but it's not happening to me at all. Seems some are having that problem and some aren't, so I'm guessing it's not something Dtoid is doing on purpose. I wonder if it's a brower-related problem.
If that's the case, it's still possibly something Dtoid screwed up somehow but I seriously doubt there's any malicious intent here or we'd all be experiencing the redirection problem.
For reference, I'm using Firefox (with Adblock Plus, if it matters) and I'm not being redirected.
I think you're missing the point. It completely redirects you to another site. I thought the site was hacked at first. Of course the site needs money. Cool your jets mate.
Uh...carry on?
It's no biggie like, I'm still coming here many times a day.
If it helps to fix the problem I'm using Firefox without any add ons.
Or as Mrs Sexualchocolate calls it: Mozarella Fireweasel.
I have no problem with sponsored posts but not when they're not labeled as such.
In the future, please label them. Just add a #sponsored tag right now—perhaps with a different color than regular tags, so it stands out—and you can be assured most people will be cool with it.
Thanks. :]
