That video? It's the Assassin's Creed launch trailer. Apparently this thing comes out rather soon.
We're impressed by the subtle, understated tone they've been taking with this thing throughout the pre-release hype. There was never any bombast to it, nothing ever exploded, no one was ever threatening to make us their bitch -- instead you just have this mysterious dude walking purposefully or brooding on top of a chapel like some kind of angsty gargoyle. This trailer perfectly encapsulates that attitude: it's got a moving, yet subtle score, there's very little actual fighting, and they demonstrate just enough parkour to convince a twelve-year-old to jump off the roof of their house.
Man, the ending to that video was pretty good. It's nice to see that Ubisoft has some tact, in in stark contrast to Rockstar's Manhunt mumbo jumbo. Dude sneaks up behind a guard and whips out his hidden blade, and that's all they needed to show. We know what's about to go down.
And so, brooding emo kids back in the middle ages actually wore a bunch of white?
I'm skeptical about assassin's creed. I just have a hard time believing it'll be as awesome as it appears to be. This classy and anti-hypeful trailer serves only to exasturbate my confusion.
1) Period piece films/games that remind me of renaissance fairs.
2) Games about "cool" and "bad ass" dudes that do crimes, don't talk, and generally act like stereotypical dicks. These are the kinds of characters teen boys idolize in movies, but when they meet people like them in real life they hate them.
3) Boring sandbox games filled with uninteresting fetch quests are crime missions.
This game looks to combine all three of these elements, which is a shame. Some of the jumping around looks fun, but over all I wish they would have speant the millions of dollars this game cost to develop on a more interesting, less cliche' concept.
But I could say the same thing about any "blockbuster" game or movie. It's a waste of breath.
I'm really excited about this... I just hope they do enough with the quests to not make them get redundant. This game has a major risk factor for redundancy.

Good point. I think subtlety is largely ignored by most people in the entertainment industries, these days. I don't need to see the knife slicing through the skin in loving and almost pornographic detail, spraying blood and entrails everywhere, in order to know what's going down. Restraint can look badass too, people.
This aired on MTV a couple a days ago. In it's entirety. It's an amazing ad for a game. One of the best i've seen in a while. Also it has the best release date ever, my birthday.

I agree that the understated feel is much more welcome than the, "ZOMG HYPE THIS SHEET ITS THE *large explosion* BOMBJAM w00T!!! Whoosh BANG!"
The game looks pretty neat too.
Awesome.
