Assassin's Creed II DLC announced for for PS3, 360 photo

A few weeks after its successful launch, Ubisoft has announced two bits of downloadable content coming to Assassin's Creed II in early 2010.

The first is "Battle of Forli," which will be available in January. It will be followed by "Bonfire of the Vanities," which will be available for download in February. Ubisoft has provided little details about the pieces of content, each of which will presumably tie in with the real-life historical events.

No pricing has been revealed, either, but Ubisoft would like you to know that you should keep "a minimum of 1.0 GB of memory available for each DLC." Start cleaning all of that naughty stuff off of your 360 and PS3 HDDs now, folks.

But still no update to replay missions already on the disc? Fuck you Ubi. That pissed me off so much. Im not gonna replay the whole game for one mission.

I grew up in Italy and from the very little I studied highschool I recall that the Battaglia di Forli' had to do with the French army (which at the time was the designated protector of the Vatican and the Pope) attacking the city of Forli'... Most likely some gripe the Pope had with them.

I can't quite guess what the other pack refers to.

I want to play this game. Jim's review doesn't frighten or enrage me. I want to assassinate some fools.

Odds are these missions can be played after the end of the game. While in the "free roam" mode.

Good game that improves upon it's predecessor in every way is good.

@Arsenic13

Totally agree. The lack of ability to replay missions is such a glaring flaw that you'd think they would at least fix it as part of the DLC. No way I'm picking these up otherwise.

AC2 was a perfectly acceptable game. People just need to remember that Jim's review - or anyone else's review for that matter - doesn't mean shit if you enjoyed the game.

At the end of the day, reviews should always be a guide and nothing more. I can't wait for the DLC.

I'm not quite sure what the mission replay complaint means. Are you referring to to declining a side quest and then not having the ability to start it up later or something?
lastdual's Avatar - Comment posted on 12/01/2009 14:15

@ kaosis

In AC1, you could go back and replay completed story missions. In AC2, you can't. Only side quests can be replayed.

So if you liked that one story mission that was 15 hours into the game, the only way to replay it is to start a new game and replay the previous 15 hours all over again. It's a rather big deterrent...

ty ty. I was unaware of that, I beat the first, roamed around a while and shelfed it. AC2 I'm doing all my roaming around while the story is in progress to prolong it.

Can't wait! There is a part of Venice I can't enter, that is probably where the DLC is. Which means that this stuff is on the disk, but locked away. Fuck.

This is slightly off the topic of the article, yet still seems like the right place to say what I must.
Plus, I only surf through the front page, so I'm commenting when the game came up. Not sure why I wasted your time with those needless details other than I enjoy the God like power of knowing I stole a piece of your life, if even for a second.

But enough about my meglomania. Anyone still on the fence for AC2, all those glitches or weird control issues Jim talked about? All accurate. It's there and as bad as he said.
And the game is buggy as hell and froze on me three times so far with the 360 version with it downloaded onto the hard drive.

BUT, anyone into story, Jim's wrong on that (don't tell me opinions can't be wrong. Any not the same as mine are always wrong). There is a very deep and well thought out plot and great way of giving you bits and pieces on your own. It rips off De Vinci code a bit, but good stuff still.

And for all the gameplay glitches, it also has much bigger cities that look great and have variety, to an extent, and lots more to do and despite the occasional Tourettes brought on by bullsh*t control defect dying moments, it's still alot of fun and much, much better than the first game. Anyone into Prince Of Persia should come away happy and seeing it through to the end.

And you have to believe all this is an acurate accessment, because I'm the truth. And the truth is absolute. Yeah, there's that meglo poking out again.

And on a last, related to actual article note, I'm psyched for the download stuff. 2 gigs of stuff, that's like a quarter the size of the entire game! Whole new cities for me to kill whores in.

And I'm not sorry I rambled on and on, but I will tell you the reason. 24 pack of Dr. Pepper and no sleep in the last 53 hours.
I wish I were a meth addict. Because staying awake without drugs is friggin' hard.

And ending back on an Ass Creed note, how weird is it that when deliriously tired, I have played better and more flawless in AC2 than at any time I was rested.
So there's your secret. Play half asleep and it's an amazing game! Which likely isn't the endorsement Ubisoft would like to run on the back of the box.

Well it turns out that waiting for the PC version was a good idea, considering that there's a 99% chance it will have all the DLC included.

There was some glitches and I died a few times from bad controls, but the game was phenominal. Everyone is entitled to thier own opinion, but I personally don't think that stuff ruined the game, I still love jim's articles though, even if I loved assassins creed 2 and thought bayonetta was bland.

Good to hear that they're going to support AC2 after launch. Wouldn't want another situation like Prototype where a fairly cool game is basically dumped after release. I would've paid for DLC if it gave me new powers or something. :(

Good DLC is awesome and takes the place of expansion packs. Bad DLC is horribly and I can't believe people buy it.

The key: support good DLC, quality and lengthy DLC, and do not support the rest.

Expect each DLC to be as lengthy as a DNA sequence in the game. Its obvious the missing 2 sequences are these DLC's. And unless I am mistaken the Bonfire of the Vanities would've taken place in the middle of the game. 2 or 3 years before the final sequence which could easily be DNA 12 or 13. So I will die of laughter if you do have to play through the game again. I have no idea about the first one however. I do not plan on purchasing these. Good locked DLC Ubi!

I despise the fact that developers/publishers hold back content for the sole purpose of quietly inflating a $60 experience into an $80+ experience via DLC.

I've only heard about the control issues in the 360 version, never in a PS3 review. I own the PS3 version, and am currently at a 95% synch, (meaning I've almost completed all the sidequests as well), and have had no control issues. I've also experienced only one or two minor glitches, and nothing that has actually affected my character's survival at any crucial moment. I hear the 360 version has better textures, but if you're on the fence, I've had no control issues with the PS3 version, and to me that's more important.

Oh, also, the Battle of Forli took place in 1282, so I'm thinking it's not already on the disk... Or with Ezio... Or they just recycled the name...

I'm playing it on my 360 and haven't experienced any control issues other than my own occasional dumb mistake, which is probably the control issues mentioned.

Also, I have a question regarding the ps3 version. I seem to remember hearing the first AC crashed a lot on the ps3 as well as artifacting, so I got AC2 for my 360 instead of my ps3. Does it have any of those previous issues?

The missing memories (12 and 13) are covered in Assassin's Creed II: Bloodlines, on the DS and iPhone. They take place in Spain and have nothing to do with either the Bonfire of the Vanities or the Battle of Forli.

@ryanbreck: For one, It's called Assassin's Creed II: Discovery. For two, If they're releasing the mission sequences as DLC, isn't that the, oh, I dunno, official version of the missing sequences? I would think so at least.

@wanderingpixel: that part of Venice gets unlocked later on in the game. I don't think theres enough evidence suggesting that the dlc is already on the disc but then again who knows.

I swear to gawd, they better allow you to replay past memory sequences, cause it's totally demolished the replay value.

@dmb6200: yes, sorry, I meant Discovery. My point still stands though. The gap in the memories has been accounted for already, and given that the titles of the dlc refer to actual historical events which have nothing to do with the plot of Assassin's Creed: Discovery, I'd be inclined to think it was new content. At the very least, the gap that everyone is complaining about has already been explained.

from wikipedia: "Assassin's Creed II: Discovery takes place during the gap in Ezio's memories which are not explored in Assassin's Creed II. It follows Ezio as he travels to 15th century Spain to free his fellow Assassins, who have been imprisoned under the guise of the Spanish Inquisition. In the process, he discovers that the Knights Templar are planning to sail west to discover the New World."
