Quantcast

TheDuoGroup has released its unofficial Assassin's Creed animation project, called "Initiation," and it's worth the next nine-minutes of your day.

The short follows the training and initiation of Altair, prior to the events of the original Assassin's Creed where he's already been dubbed "Hashshashin." As an unofficial project, the work isn't sanctioned by Ubisoft and its narrative may not fit into the backstory the publisher had in mind, but it's impressive nonetheless.

TheDuoGroup's previous work has included a Metal Gear animation, as well as giving Shadow of the Colossus the Hollywood blockbuster trailer treatment.

[Thanks, Litos!]

Great art, great concept, some of the worst animation I've seen in quite some time. AWFUL animation.

That was a really slick cartoon. The wall with the hand prints was pure genius and it was something that would have been perfect for the game.

It really fit the mood of the game in which it bored me to tears.

beautiful art and great concept, but would it have killed them to get someone to work on the animation? 7/10

This was pretty awesome... They should've included a level like this in the real game :-)

the handprint wall made the movie for me :-)

PS: to the people complaining about the animation, it's a commonly used style here in Europe, and I kinda like it... Sure it takes some getting used to but it's like hitchcock-movies, the beauty is in what you DON't see...

Quite good for a fan-made short sequence. Like others have said, animation wise..... eh not so good. Not good at all in fact. It's not even really animated in a traditional sense.

But it's a hell of a lot better than anything I could do, so I suppose it's impressive. In a way.

I like it the animation actually. It reminds me of the minimalist 'Thief' cutscenes back in the day. God I miss those...

Huh, so do Altair/Ezio both lack fingers in the game or was that merely the creator's idea? Also, I kind of liked the animated storyboard look, though those were some crazy legs. I remember trying to animate a Far Side comic for in a high school digital media class; not easy.

Didn't mind the lack of expertise in the animation, it is a fan item after all that concentrates more on the art and story and less on the perfection of the animation.

Not bad and better than what I can do.

MAN that animation was off-putting. The concept was clever, though.

The animation isn't the focus point in that vid guys, get seious. Not every video in this day and age should be '1080p ftw'. /rant

The narration and the story itself is amazing. I loved the bloody hand prints on the wall concept.
