Assassin's Creed DS actually exists, first details and screens photo

Having existed only as a listing on retailer release sheets, a lot of people were starting to think that Assassin's Creed DS was nothing more than vaporware. Not the case, as a GoNintendo reader snagged some box art (which contains a slew of information about the game) from a local GameStop, proving that the game does indeed exist.

Officially called Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles, the Gameloft developed DS title will take place before the events of the console version. As the screens and text tell us, Altair Chronicles features a fully 3D-rendered medieval world, where our little assasin will engage in sword fights and stealth assassinations. You'll also be able to use the stylus for interrogations, which makes me really uncomfortable, if you get where I'm coming from.

The GameStop release list we got our hands on last month has the game listed for a February release, and hopefully we'll hear more information before then. And before you start ripping this game a new one, I'm going to be honest with you guys -- I'm really interested in trying it out. Gameloft developed some pretty killer Prince of Persia mobile titles that have gotten me through some tough times in public rest rooms. I'm trying to remain optimistic that Altair will get similar attention.

GoNintendo is a great site that I used to visit all the time, too bad he even wastes the front page posting box art of games like Bratz DS.

Hmm this could be good. It could be like the Retro Prince of Persion in AC form. You know, without the glitches.

Kinda cool but before the events in the first game Altair is a huge douchebag and I hated the fact I had to play as him. The lack of voice acting might be a plus though.

Hmmm... this could be cool but I think i'll just wait for Ninja Gaiden if I want an action game on my DS

Hmmm, I know it's hard to tell much of anything from those low-quality box-art scans but the game actually looks kind of neat.

Here's hoping it's a good game.

Looks about as necessary as the Prince of Persia DS game was.

Is there a reason why this is on the DS instead of the Wii..

I'm not one of those people that believe that everything you can swing or mimic in real life should be made into a Wii game.

I'm just having a hard time understanding this type of move of putting it on the DS..

They would have design something totally different for the Wii. People would expect something on par with the original, which the Wii probably just couldn't do.

Putting a successful IP on the DS is a good business move. Tons of people have one (including xbox and ps3/2 owners), and the touch and dual screens have proven to be innovative when games are designed specifically with them in mind. This IP is new and important enough that I'm betting they're not just going to slap whatever together and put it on the DS cause they think of anywhere else to stick it. Seems like it could be really good.

I'm just going to take a wild guess at the forthcoming reviews for this game. 7 point..... 0?

woohoo, I always like it when they make 'on-the-go'-versions of great games that also tie-in to the story :-) (GRAW2 on PSP does that too I hear, just started the first mission in it...)

( i also loved raising those sonic-adventure-thingies on the Dream-cast Visual Memory Unit :-) )

Looks charming. Then again, that's not what they're going for.

What's so great about slicing someone up in DS3D? There's not even any blood. Well, unless you f*** up your "interrogation".

Could be good, well made portable games tend to have tighter gameplay and a more focused game world, due to the restrictions.

Assassin's Creed is definitely a game in need of more focus, so this could actually work and in some ways be a purer version of the game.

I don't know about you, but seeing a date and month for a title on a release sheet is proof enough to me that a game exists for the time being. That said, I'm most likely getting this.

I don't think it would be good as the original. DS can only do so much.

Nice move, Ubisoft and it looks good.. Ubi are very good a going where the money is, that's why a DS version is more viable, when PC gamers had trouble shifting even the likes of Crysis.

There'll be no PC cut of Assasins Creed until it breaks even into enough profit. A DS version will perhaps indirectly help the possibility of a PC version.

What a shitty move on Ubi's part. You go out of your way to establish a franchise, and you decide to explain on the canon in HANDHELD game?

You couldn't have done a digital graphic novel? They seem to be having success with Brothers in Arms and Call of Duty on the DS, so it very well may be appeasing.

But, I don't own a DS, so I doubt I'll ever actually get hands on this one.
