Assassin's Creed, Army of Two among GameFly's most requested games photo

Want to know what people are most interested in borrowing from GameFly's videogame rental/delivery service? The rental lists are interesting because I think it lays out what people want to play but aren't willing to buy. Of course, there isn't a direct correlation, but I think there's something to the total lack of Wii games in the top ten, as Joystiq pointed out.

Here's the top five requested games on GameFly in 2008:

  1. Assassin's Creed - PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS
  2. Army of Two - PS3, Xbox 360
  3. Grand Theft Auto IV - PS3, Xbox 360
  4. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - PS3, Xbox 360
  5. Devil May Cry 4 - PS3, Xbox 360

So, while this may vary from person to person, I'd say this top ten list reads like my personal want to play but don't want to buy list for last year. The exception for me is Dead Space, coming in at number 9. Did you rent or buy any of these games in 2008?

Hit the jump to see all of the top ten.

  1. Assassin's Creed - PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS
  2. Army of Two - PS3, Xbox 360
  3. Grand Theft Auto IV - PS3, Xbox 360
  4. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - PS3, Xbox 360
  5. Devil May Cry 4 - PS3, Xbox 360
  6. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS
  7. Call of Duty: World at War - PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS
  8. Burnout Paradise - PS3, Xbox 360
  9. Dead Space - PS3, Xbox 360
  10. Prince of Persia - PS3, Xbox 360

I played (and loved) Dead Space, but I've yet to buy it. Damn, most of those games are in my do not want column.

I rented Assassin's Creed, CoD4, and Vegas 2 from GameFly. I ended up buying Vegas 2 from them, though. I have the copy the day after it was released, so I'm pretty sure it was a brand new disc. Assassin's Creed was a good rental, because it was the same missions over and over. I finished it, but hopefully Ubisoft addresses the repetition for AC2.

Army of Two is some decent co-op action not worth owning but worth renting!

I bought and still have every one of those games in my collection.

I would agree with those being games that I would wanna play but not pay in full to own. The exception to that being Devil May Cry 4 since I play that quite frequently after having beaten it.

I am curious exactly how far down the list the first Wii title appears.

I bought 5 games in that list. I was never a big renter of games.

Wow. I bought seven of the ten. Granted, I only have four of them now because I traded the others in. Renting games has never been something I was fond of, especially when I hear about the nightmare that Gamefly can be sometimes.

I have paying full price for games that don't have a lot of replay value. I'm thinking of starting a Gamefly subscription, and if I do, the games at the top of my list will be games that can be completed then never thought of again.

The only two me and my roommate rented (we share a 2 disc membership) was Army of Two and Dead Space. Army of two was well worth that rental, but I didn't play dead space. I guess we're out of the norm for rental games.

I would defimitely want to own Burnout: Paradise, especially with all that delicious DLC.

That's just me.

Wow, Prince of Persia jumped up there and it came in late in the year. Along with Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft must be doing something right.. or wrong...

Wait a minute. On what grounds are we grouping the DS versions of Assasins Creed, COD4 and its full price expansion with their console siblings? They're all completely different games :/ I'm SUPER CEREALS!

I agree with Blindside. While I liked it more than I anticipated, Army of Two just isn't worth a purchase. I liked it when I rented it, though.

While I agree Assassin's Creed may be worth a rental, I got it as a gift, so, yeah...
